Whats up with all the image host
Well it seems you now have to have a premium account to upload any png with transparent background or animated gif images to imageshack.
Tinnypic is no good because they just deleted things when ever they start getting to much built up on their server, and can care less who has what uploaded.
So imageshack are charging anywhere from 8 dollars a month to 68 dollars a year..
thats insane, hopefully they will come to their senses when they start losing people because of this change.
So it looks like back to photobucket, but your only allowed so much for free and i see bandwidth run out a lot with peoples images from them.
There is a host called imagebam and you can upload gif and transparent png, but you have to take the direct link out of the the forum thumbnail code in order to get it to work for anything you need a direct link for,
I would say stick with servimg, but now i just noticed that certain animated gif will not upload and you cant upload any png that has a transparent background,
So for all of yous that create custom stuff for your forums, html pages or web designs.I am sure you know where i am coming from when i say this stinks,
Anyone know of other good free image hosting as alternative?
i will also run this by typlo to see if he can try to do anything about the png problem with servimg, and even certain animated gif don't seem to upload anymore on servimg.
like it will upload, but will not be animated, and for png with transparent backgrounds.. it just adds a white back ground to it automatically, so thats no good?
What do yous think? and please if you have any other good free image host to where you can upload animated gif and transparent png please do post.
Thanx

I've used uimgz.com for some time now, mainly beacuse of their jQuery interface.
When designing forum themes, I use a server of my own, though.

yeah it sounds like a plan, i have been wanting to build my own for a while now.Saxaca wrote: I use a server of my own, though.
uimgz.com seems to be working good, but whats their reputation and image life line like?
servimg has just been acting funny lately, it will upload some animated gif, then it wont.
and as far as png with transparent backgrounds,, they dont work at all, it just puts a white background in automatically

Re: Whats up with all the image host
well it looks like this host was short lived?
see thats the thing about small un-recognized host, they never last?
http://www.uimgz.com/
do you mind elaborating on this reply?
is it something others can use or your own server.
We are looking for something others can use.
Looks like the best bet would be to use photobucket, unless you want to pay imageshack or have your own server to upload them to.. i dont know what the deal is with servimg?
i have asked and never got a reply.. i know servimg always worked before.. and it's forumotions image host so dunno why transparent backs or animated gif no longer work. it seems to have went down the same time imageshack start charging.
It's a bunch of Bull dung i'll tell ya that much.... LOL

Re: Whats up with all the image host
I had a lot of trouble getting gif banners up with the srvimg image host. They'd upload, but then the gif wouldn't animate.
I think the problem was file size. After using a gif reducer, it was able to display it.

yeah small gif files work, but still leaves us with the transparent png background dilemma.

Well the good thing about servimg, is it's forumotions host, so even if the server has some problems, forumotion would do everything to get the images back up because most of whats uploaded to the host is for forumotion forums.

Re: Whats up with all the image host
What I have been using is Imgur . Its officially the image host of Reddit, but it can be used for anything other than that. Supports direct linking to layouts, png transperant backgrounds, .gif images, ect...
Tell me what you think

Re: Whats up with all the image host
I used to use photobucket but ever since the 're-did' it last year it's been near impossible and takes forever to upload but i stuck on for lack of other options.
Now I use Forumotion lol. all our graphics are hosted in our sites gallery (or at least will be when i finish this new skin). Site graphics are stored in a hidden gallery and it's been much faster/easier then any host i know.
..that and it should hopefully mean that if the image server fails people will be more worried about the entire site being down.
So far i haven't found anything it won't handle, but for big files ala sound/video we use UbuntuOne as a backup.
The only disadvantage is that it costs me 50credits to up the space every month. but that's still cheaper then any image host i know.
