Hacker

I have a person who signed up and threatened to hack and shut down my forum. Hes already done it once with my friends forum. Completely deleted it. He was able to become a member on my board and post one threat before i deleted him. And banned him as well as his email and ip. Then later, after i made it so that an admin has to approve any new posters, he was somehow able to get in again. A good friend of mine is my co admin. When i tried to delete the hack again it said that i cant ban or delete an admin, and my friend/co-admins profile popped up. I quickly was able to change my friends password. This is a major headache. Cant anything be done to stop someone like this?? I have to think this is illegal. I change my password every day now. And its always very long. Im retired Navy SEAL so obviously what i want to do is probably not ok. LOL. Of course im just angry and want to find out who this guy is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well the only thing you can do is keep banning his I.P/email. Only the founder of the forum can delete it so dont worry. For more help read this.

Yes, a hacker CAN do things like that, forumotion will have to make forum's security more higher.

Hi Fleet , well for 1, once you ban a member of your forum, Do Not delete them. It undoes the ban and allows them to return again and re-register again. I'm sure you don't want that. Hackers are always a threat , but the best thing you can do is, never share your admin password with ANYONE, ever.

And if by chance your forum does ever get hacked. You, as admin have the ability to use the utilities tool to restore your forum again after an attack. Here I hope that helps some.

its like this even if you ban the IP address of a person sooner or later he will still use other IP in order to get in, and once done he will do the rest.

i have s little suggestion even though i was never been to that situation, after you ban the IP, the next thing to secure is your forum need to be atleast administrators acknowledgement on every user who got register, no e-mail confermation required just the admin itself... im not also saying this was effective although its one of the remedy for security reason.


~ and dont forget every act he do against, just provide a screen shot so you may do something on him regarding with the user reports...

You can just get Forumotion to give you the backup and put it into another site and then if the hacker does get through you have protection but copy all your members emails down so that if it does get destroyed you can contact them

only way a hacker is going closed down your website if you have a small and easy password if you got a strong password like my abit like this "£54gf dd $£4545 ggf fg fdgfd if someone can crack a password like that i will give them a milllion pounds


ooo yea another way if you click onto a a dodgy link that someone posted on your forum, so make sure the link look right before you click on to it because it could be a keylogger.

As you know, forumotion reserves the right to give people alot of things (ex:database) but i do not know if they have to give you the backup.
