Smilie Issue?
I'm a mod over on a forum, where we are having some trouble with smilies - a user tried inputting smilies, in both quick reply and regular reply mode, but they kept coming up as:
I logged onto his account to check it out, and the smilies appeared fine in image form within the reply box, but when you hit the reply/send button they would convert into these weird bbcode tags.
Any suggestions?
He's using Firefox. I tried his account out in Google Chrome and it was fine. Then I tried my own account and his account in both firefox and they both did the same thing -with strange bbcode in the post
Is this something that can be fixed via the CSS, admin panel? Or is it something with Firefox?

Re: Smilie Issue?
I'm getting this problem too. It's affecting all members on one forum, who are presumably using different browsers - so it might not just be FF.
Details: When a user inputs a smiley in the WYSIWYG editor and then submits the post, the smiley turns to an image code, but kicks of the start of the url.
eg. goes to
It also happens when switching between editor modes and in the quick reply mode.
However, on another forum I visit, it does the same thing, but instead adds the full url of the smiley image in the place of the bbcode - which is alright as it still displays the smiley.
Hope someone can help, thanks.

Re: Smilie Issue?
I tried with both quick reply and normal reply while using firefox and IE, works fine. Can I have the names of your forums? May help me figure it out.
Re: Smilie Issue?
Right okay, one other thing, the forum is brand-new - only made just this week. Maybe this is something to do with it. Also, I'm pretty inexperienced too - this may also be a factor.
Anyway, it's an unofficial school forum as you might guess - http://bentononfire.forumotion.co.uk
Oh and before you ask, it's all in good humour - we're not sinister or anything.

That's the first thing I tried.Ryuku wrote:Im baffled here...never heard of anything such as this occuring. Have you or your members tried clearing your cache's?
I've also tried re-uploading the smilies, switching between different combinations of the standard / extended / WYSIWYG / and quick reply editors and using different smiley codes.

Re: Smilie Issue?
I cleared out my cache, but as I use Chrome, it doesn't really affect me.
It happened to a few other members, all of whom reported using Firefox.

Re: Smilie Issue?
everytime we try to click the smilies, it shows the smilies in the quick reply or normal reply but after clicking send it shows the error somewhat looks like this.. could someone please help us.. i think the old version was better.. when the whole url is posted like this [ img ]http://animeguildphils.darkbb.com/user/smilies/fhagfhagfha.gif[ /img ] or i think it is much better if after clicking the smilies, the code will go to the quick reply instead of the smilies itself..

yup.. it also happened in my forum.. i forgot to say i'm using phpbb2.. what forum type are you using?
Re: Smilie Issue?
Tried everything suggested so far and more, but to no avail.
I'm using phpbb2 as well. Also, it works fine in IE - not sure about other browsers - but FireFox is the only one I know of with problems atm.

Bad news folks, it's happening in Google Chrome and Opera too, so it's not just FireFox...

Re: Smilie Issue?
i think forumotion made some changes.. don't you think so? hmm.. i hope they can fix it as soon as possible..
Re: Smilie Issue?
Several members of my forum are having the same problem, but not all the members, so it's an intermittent problem.komiks0916 wrote:everytime we try to click the smilies, it shows the smilies in the quick reply or normal reply but after clicking send it shows the error somewhat looks like this.. could someone please help us.. i think the old version was better.. when the whole url is posted like this [ img ]http://animeguildphils.darkbb.com/user/smilies/fhagfhagfha.gif[ /img ] or i think it is much better if after clicking the smilies, the code will go to the quick reply instead of the smilies itself..
This is very weird.
* EDIT * I have discovered that those members who are currently affected by this problem are using Firefox.

DR. P also said that it is also happening in google chrome and opera.. i hope they can fix this as soon as possible.. it's very hard to manually type the smilies codes..

Re: Smilie Issue?
My forum is experiencing the same issue. IE works fine. Anyone using Firefox...the emotes don't show up, just a truncated part of the link to the emote like someone posted above.

Re: Smilie Issue?
It doesn't matter which editor someone is using, after posting, the smiley is always replaced. And as described above, it also gets replaced when switching between editor modes, ie clicking A/A.Mystic_gohan2 wrote:i use firefox still it is working . activate the A/A button the click on A/A button the click on smileys it will work . if it does not work copy the image URL by right click and change it in adminitrator panel or do [*img]url of image[*/IMG]
I don't think you can change the url in the admin panel, there's only a browse, smiley name, and smiley code box. The smiley code box seems to be limited at 20 chars or something, so entering a smiley as :[img*]https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_confused.png[/img*]: would just get cut down.

Re: Smilie Issue?
Is any one having IE NOT work? I can switch back and forth between IE and Firefox. Newly added smileys work with IE, not FireFox.

UPDATE: The smilie problem appears to be fixed on my forum today.
