    Solved Forum Facebook Login

Post by runawayhorses Mon 2 Apr - 21:11

I set up my forum with the facebook Connect from the Admin panel>>Modules>>Facebook Connect and created a application on facebook and then I added my APP: ID and the Facebook secret code: Number and Activated Facebook connect module and saved my settings. Everything appeared fine the facebook login button "Login with facebook" was on the login page of the forum. Then I wanted to test it so I logged out and then went back to the login page of the forum and clicked the "Login with facebook" button. Then it took me to a page where I needed to "agree to these terms", my only option was to click the "I agree to these terms" or click the "I do not agree to these terms" button. So I clicked the "I agree to these terms" button. It took me to a "Registration Information" page where I was supposed to create a user name and add my email address and create a password. I felt this odd considering I am the Admin of the forum and am obviously already a member. It wanted me to create a new account! Well of course I did not do that. I want to login to the forum as the Admin with my already existing account.

So the problem is the facebook button wants me to Register and I simply want to login. What am I doing wrong?

I have added a facebook connect button to another website of mine with no issues at all it worked perfectly, but the forum facebook button wants you to Register. How can this be fixed?

    thanks

I was trying to login to my forum by clicking the facebook button. When you click it, it wants you to register. Its suppose to log you into the forum. If its the first time you logged into the forum using facebook a screen will pop-up from facebook asking you if its OK. That is not happening with the login button on the forum like its supposed to do. All it wants you to do is Register to the forum. A screenshot won't show anything but a registration page.

well is your facebook email and pass the same one you have on your forum.
Because it logs you in to facebook but i dont think it will log you in to the forum, you have to do that separate.

But yeah since i am not a member of your forum i did get redirected to registration page, the facebook window closed, However when i went to facebook.com i was logged in to facebook.

I think all it dose is show the app to who you chose to see it on your facebook page and it shows you are on your forum?

Other then that i am going to have to set mine up again and test it.
i am really not exactly sure how it is supposed to work, i gave up on when facebook was giving me a run around with my code they sent the first time.

It was a invalid code they sent me and everything i tried to get a new one they kept giving me the invalid one.. It took me like three months to finally get it worked out and was not very fond of the options after that... lol

    info added
    Dude it worked.
Yes you have to do the registration again because it will not recognize you until you do.
Once you do, log out of facebook and the forum and go back and do it through facebook again.. it puts you right through to the forum with your facebook account email and pass Smile
so the forum account would just be to log in the forum, if you use facebook one, it will log you in to both Smile cool...

I'm sorry I don't understand. Do you mean Register to my forum again? I just want the facebook button to log people in using there facebook info. I am totally lost here. On my fansite (not a forum) its a regular website I have a login button that has the facebook button and I added it just like I did the forum, but that one works.

    I don't understand.

when you do it you will see what i mean.
But yeah it works, set up a test account on your forum to test it with if you want to try it that way.
But you'll see once you do it.

    It goes like this
go to the facebook log in option, add your facebook account info like you would when you log in to facebook.. Ok now it brings you to the registration page on your forum. when you click register you will see your email and a user name automatically come up,
Just add the pass you want and click ok,

So now log out of the forum and facebook and log back in just using the facebook feature once again, this time when you send it it will log you in the forum, as well as facebook

OK I did that and when I clicked to register it gave me this message "Sorry, but that e-mail address is already registered to a user."

I have the same username and email for facebook and my forum. So its wanting to create a new account on the forum. I want my already existing members to be able to log into the forum without have to create a new account or add a different email to do it. It won't let me use the same email account,

Press the Profile button under your banner, then look for the Preferences tab.

You will need to tell your members to do this if they want to use it. New members will be able to use the Facebook Connect to create an account on your forum.

OK I got it that worked! cheers

OK, what I need to do now is tell my already existing members to go to the profile pages and tick the associate facebook button. That totally worked. So now new members won't have to do that I guess because they would have already associated there accounts by creating a new account using the facebook button, right? But if they don't use the facebook button to register they will have to go to there profile page under prefferences and tick the associate facebook button. OK if I'm correct let me know so I can tell my members. thanks.

Thank you both so much both Kirk and you sig. I really appreciate it. Both you help was needed to work this out. I think we all learned something. The great thing is it works perfectly.

Let me know if I am right about what I said above. thanks a again.

    Correct.

If they use the Facebook Connect to create an account, the two accounts will be associated. For members before you added it and the ones that do not use it, they will have to do it in their profiles.
