Solved Create a loading page before accessing your forum

Post by runawayhorses June 11th 2012, 5:35 pm

I used the tut on this page and everything worked perfectly with one important detail. Let me explain. When in the HTML management page to test the loading page to make sure it redirects to the forum home page by clicking the in the Action "View" it redirects perfectly like it should. But when you go to that page via your new home page it doesn't redirect, it loads for 4 seconds doesn't go anywhere. So what I'm saying is when you access the loading page thru HTML page management it works perfectly, but when you access the page through the new Homepage link it will not redirect. Once you click your new homepage "Use this page as homepage ?" and set it to "Yes" the other loading page will not redirect because you accessed it through the new home page. Crazy but thats whats happening.
    Anyone know why?

Heres the new home page but I do not have it activated as the real home page yet, but it will take you to the redirect page. If I set it has the new homepage the redirect page will no longer redirect.

No I don't think you understand this is very hard to explain. I'll try again. The redirect page works fine until I activate my new HTML page as homepage, then the redirect page will no longer redirect.

Its not in my HTML coding because that all works when the new HTML homepage is not activated to be the new homepage. Only when I activate the new HTML page to be the new homepage does the new redirect page stop redirecting.

When you created the HTML page, did you check the yes box for to make it your homepage?

Yes I did. The redirect page will not redirect after I click the "Yes" button to make my new HTML page the homepage. It redirects fine until I make the new HTML page the new homepage.

Read the tut, there are 2 HTML pages involved in this. 1 is a homepage and the other is a redirect page.

Yes and it is. Try it. I posted it in my first post.

It works now because the that link is not activated as the homepage.

It loaded your forum. Go when you activate it as the homepage, you can not be redirected to the forum/index page of your forum?

yes thats right when I set it as the homepage the redirect page no longer redirects to the index.

Edit: Well I fixed it it turns out I did nothing wrong and I followed the tut correctly. The tut is incorrect in stating to add the URL of the new HTML home page to the new loading page/redirect page 'after' you set it as the homepage. It states to create the new html homepage and set it as the forums homepage first, then to create the loading/redirect page and add the homepage URL to the redirect page. The URL of your new homepage changes to the regular URL of your forum once you set it as the homepage, and your index page adds a /forum at the end of its URL. So adding that URL to the redirect page would not redirect to the index page. All that was doing was reloading the new homepage..

I know this is hard to follow.. lol!

Here it is so you can see that it works:

Does anyone have anything they would like to add before I mark this solved? If not I will mark it solved this evening.
