    If the forum is configured in such a way so that only the main page and the portal page can be read by guests, in other words guests can't read posts, will search engines still be able to index posts on the forum, or are they effectively prevented by the forum's configuration?

    they are not able to read anything that guests cant or index it. This is because there is a special file called robots.txt that sets it to be so. Smile

    Can the robots.txt file be edited to change the setting, allowing robots to see everything?

    it cant be as we dont have access to it but if you change your permissions to allow guests to view but not reply it will allow the bot to index Smile
