Forum won't accept names of new members

For some reason, every name that tries to register, they are notified that "that name has been taken" and there is only the admin there so far. But; if they register with a funny name (like tableleg for example) that isn't a real name, it will accept that one. But it won't accept something simple like Linda, Mary, Bill, etc. etc.

This is very strange. Do you have any censored usernames?

No, I just opened yesterday and I wanted my friend to be second to joining. I don't even have the categories set up yet. I just wanted to get her in. She registered under many tries, but had to use a stupid name, couldn't use her own.

I can't wrap my brain around this one as I have had many forums in the past and never seen anything like this.

What version of your forum is this? And what is your link to your forum? I would like to try and see what's wrong. Oh wait, I know, it's punBB, right?

Please note turning this off will open a gateway for bots to register spam accounts on your forum.

When I first made my forum, that option wasn't set to no, it was set to yes. But my version was phpbb 2

Yes, it is punBB.

And I just looked there right now and I see a bot on there. Is that a good thing or a bad thing. I don't know what a bot is.
