Changing forum address (general questions)

I plan to change my forum address soon, and while I assume it's a rather easy process I'd like to know a few things.

Of course I'll enable maintenance mode before doing so, but should I keep the forum "offline" for an hour or so after doing this, to let the database and everything else on forummotions end "settle" down and adjust?

Will my previous url auto direct to the new one, or will it just be deleted (I suspect the latter).


Basically just want to keep things smooth for everyone, including for forumhosts end of the deal.

Are you changing the original address or a domain name? If you are just changing the original address, it will redirect to the new one for a while. You need to inform your members of the new address.

Just the address via "quick update" from General -> Forum Address.

A whole entire domain will come at a later date. Thanks, I'll notify my members and mark this thread as solved.
