    Solved Spoiler Text Link

    Post by runawayhorses February 18th 2013, 2:50 pm

    Is there a code I can use to replace the default text on the spoiler bar that says "Spoiler"? I'd like it to read "Click to show content". The reason I want to change it is because some people don't know what a spoiler is and will disregard a link that just says "Spoiler", if it said "Click to show content" that might be more explanatory as to what the link actually does. I'd like it to continue being a text link.

    I'm using Invision, thanks

    Thanks, but I want something that will create the text automatically when they use the "Spoiler" button on the text editor. Not everyone is going to know how to do that manually. I think it will need to be a javascript. So when the spoiler code is used when they submit the post the new text will be used instead of the "Spoiler" link.

    Hmm, I do not have an answer for you, mate. Sad
    I'm really not an expert with JS, but I know there's a function for it to work..

    Sorry.

    Thanks, but I really don't want to add a new button to the editor, I'd much rather just change the text link that is displayed when the "Spoiler" tags are used. Now it reads "Spoiler" but would like it to read "Click to show content" instead.

    Oh good grief I can't believe I did that, I wasn't paying attention..lol

    Anyway, I put the code in CSS stylesheet and it works fine, but its removing the topic header background image and I would like that to stay if I can, so to keep that I had to remove this part of the code below, but now of course the text "Spoiler" is showing and running into the new text, so if I can either remove that "Spoiler" text or better yet have it show before the new text "Click to show content" so it would all look like the "Spoiler Click to Show Content" would be nice, or just removing the text "Spoiler" altogether would be fine too, but I really would like to keep the header image for the spoiler if I can. I suggest you look at it again the way it is now to get a better understanding of what the situation is now and what I'm talking about. thanks a lot. Smile

    Code:
    .spoiler > dt {
    visibility: hidden;

    No thats doing the same thing its removing the header image. Razz

    Edit: Ok, where I'm at now is I went back to your second code because the third one didn't make any changes, and I edited the text to add the word "Spoiler" in it so the entire link reads like this "Spoiler: Click to Show Content", and I'm fine with that so the text is solved. So really now I just would like to have that border/header image back on top the spoiler like I had before that the "visibility: hidden" removed , you can see that header image on the code boxes to see what I'm talking about, the code boxes are inside the spoiler. But really its not necessary to have the header image on the spoiler box if its not doable, I can certainly live with that because it looks great now. But if you have an idea how to put the header image back I'll try it, if not we can consider this solved. Smile

    Well I had abandon this project and remove all the coding that was used in creating the new text "Click to Show Content". because of an all too familiar disappointment we all experience while doing page work, it was presented by none other than our favorite browser "Internet Explorer". Internet Explorer of course doesn't like it and was not showing the text at all, everything looked fine on firefox but of course when things look great on FF you can bet your bottom dollar they won't on IE.

    Ok, well I'm done with this little project after being thoroughly disgusted by Internet Explorer yet again, I unwittingly continue to be its victim over and over again and have had enough for awhile. I'll keep the coding I have now that works for IE too, because a lot of my members use IE so unfortunately I have to babysit Internet Explorer and make sure everything works for it too.

    OK, thanks rideem I appreciate all your efforts.
