Solved Externally purchased domain name to replace forumotion domain

Post by ModifiedCarForum March 17th 2013, 12:35 pm

I have looked through many topics on these forums, and have read the domain advice given by forumotion and cannot find what I am looking for, or the wording just isn't clear to me.

I have a domain name that I would like to use to replace the forumotion one (subdomain.forumotion.com)

    I.E. I want mydomain.com

I have purchased the domain from Namecheap.com and have several others that I have in use using other website builders, normally I just change the A(address) records to the IP of the website builder and job done, my website shows in the address bar as mydomain.com

I cannot seem to do the same here however, I have tried changing the A records to subdomain.forumotion.com and this doesn't work, and I can't find anywhere where I can change the DNS settings, there is no IP address provided.

Is this possible to do or am I finding it impossible because that is what you have to pay for using credits?

At the moment mydomain.com points to subdomain.forumotion.com and this is not what I want, it makes my forum look very unprofessional.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

    Hello,

Have you read this tutorial https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board it gives you some advice on how to set up a domain on your forum that you've bought yourself outside forumotion.

Error: The supplied domain name is not well configured

That is the message I get when I followed the process in the link you gave me? I followed the directions to the letter so not sure why it hasn't worked?

Could it be to do with the fact that for some reason my subdomain has been given a .co.uk extension rather than a .com? obviously I made sure I entered .co.uk as the CNAME but it didn't work.....might try .com later to see if that works.

I will wait a few hours incase the changes are just taking their time to happen before making any other changes.

I don't think co.uk should matter. Configuring it, should not take time.

I have not tried setting it up really. But, many users face such a problem when they get a domain name from outside. Try getting help from your domain registrar.
