    Solved Custom profile field removal

Post by Inhaps September 5th 2013, 10:51 pm

I am posting on behalf of the admins of a phpbb3 forum. I do not have admin access there myself.

We have a system of badges that are placed underneath the profile like this:

These are added via a custom profile field, an image list. But the issue we seem to have is the inability to remove such a profile field from a single user once it has been given, save for adding a blank image as one of the options

but that method has its issues as the blank image stays in the profile layout, resulting in such blank fields for some users.

Each profile field is configured as follows, most having quite a lot more images than shown below:

Is there any way to delete such a profile field from an individual without affecting any other users? Have we missed something obvious or is there a better way of achieving this result?

Maybe just leave the profile field blank for that member, and don't make it a mandatory profile field either.

It is not a mandatory field, though, but it seems to act like such once it has been modified in the profile. I should probably note that non-admin users cannot modify these fields.

there isnt a way to disable profile fields for some members only. its pretty much all or nothing

the only thing i can tell you to do is

    1. not make it mandatory
    2. do not use a blank image but do not pick a default (leave blank).

ive used this method for one of mine and it worked out. this should make the field not show up. but mine was a text field so it might be different

EDIT : just made an image list for my test forum and as long as you just leave the default set as then the field wont show up

I have just realised that we can delete the blank image option which will result in the removal of that field from everyone affected. The blank option can be re-added immediately for when another user needs it removed.

Problem (in a rather cumbersome way but) solved.
