I´m a newbie and setting up my first forum. Please give me some guidance in how the system of receiving notification are supposed to function. Do the members have a say in weather og not to receive email notification when a new topic is entered in the forum? Can he select a topic he wants to follow without himself participating (posting a comment) in the topic discussion?

Hello,
Members will be able to customise their email notifications in their profile preferences area when editing their profile. They'll also have a choice of watching or not watching topics/forums.

In each forum and topic there are a link to press to follow atopic or forum, so yes a member can follow without posting.

Re: How to follow a topic
Hi and thanks for trying to help me.
- I find a "button" with the text " Start watching this forum", I assume it is this function which will send me e-mails when new messages are posted on any topic?
- Is there an admin setting making this the default function for all members?
- If there are several messages during the day, is it possible to get just one summarizing e-mail containing links to the different messages?
- If I choose to not watch a forum, but would like to get an e-mail when somebody answers one particular topic in that forum, I can not find a button for this. I am the admin and I might have done some mistake in the forum settings. Any advice?

Re: How to follow a topic
Hello,
1. You are correct. This button will allow you to watch or unwatch an entire forum. So when new replies or topics are created within said forum, you will or won't receive email notifications depending on your choice.
2. As far as I know, there is no admin option in the admin panel for this.
3. It is not possible to do this, I'm afraid.
4. At the bottom of each individual topic, not forum, a similar option exists. You can watch or unwatch specific topics instead of just whole forums.

Re: How to follow a topic
Thank you, it is very nice to get support like this, even though the answers are not always what I would like to hear.Base wrote:4. At the bottom of each individual topic, not forum, a similar option exists. You can watch or unwatch specific topics instead of just whole forums.
To question 4: I was asking, since there is no such option below the individual topics in my new forum. Could I mistakingly have unchecked an option in the admin panels?
