Solved azwiz request for definition # 1 " Tagging "

Post by azwiz January 22nd 2015, 11:40 am

Tagging is term used here that I do not know the definition of . What is tagging a forum , a posting , a person , a poster , a photo ? What does it mean  When I see that someone has " tagged " someone in a topic . It doesn't appear to be any different than when someone " wrote a message " in a watched topic ?

For what reasons would one have to tag someone ?

On this forum and other Forumotion Forums tagging is refereed to as tagging a member in a post.

To do so you would type @ sign, followed by the persons username e.g.

    Code:
    @Derri

The person who's been tagged then gets a notification in the toolbar.

Is tagging used just as a heads up as a courtesy to let them know there is a notification ? Telling them something negative ? or something positive ? Or just that there is a notification ?
Basically is it good or bad or neither ?

Thank you for that . Finally a somewhat definitive answer . I understand now . I thought it was used in a disciplinary way and now I know it is not  But could be .

      Thank you

This also answers another current topic . Yesterday , when I applied the code .
The toolbar didn't show up right away .azwiz request for definition # 1 " Tagging " Correc10

I believe the "member tagging" system is just a way of notifying a user of a certain post that the person tagging them wants them to see.

It there a different means of notification for a tag . Then just replying to a topic  ? what is the difference of tagging or replying ?

Yes I know where they are now . I didn't know what they all meant . Still don't .

@azwiz, it's still a fairly new feature, but to put it simply, it's just a way to notify someone that you replied to them. There was a similar feature called "watch this topic" which sent you a notification every time someone replied. It's similar to that in a way, but only to a single member. For example, I just tagged you .. so now you're "it" ! ahahah... that was bad, right ? Razz

Seeing as you've marked your topic as solved, I'll go ahead and archive it.

    Have a nice day. bye
