Most information says it will be released on July 29th. You have a full year after the release to get the free Windows 10 upgrade.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
It sounds like for me (Windows 8.1) it will be treated as an update. Which means that it will be downloaded automatically, and I can determine the install time.

Same for me. I just got it this morning and entered my email.
You can also check your PC. Click the icon and when it opens, click the three horizontal lines at the top left corner.
One thing that Windows 10 will remove is Microsoft Media Center. It looks like most things that it removes will be what Windows 7 users have.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
Windows 7 is the best operating system since, I honestly (if i currently had a good computer) if given a choice would not upgrade from it. Great software and new doesnt always mean better.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
Hello guys,
I have tested all previous windows versions now I am using windows 8.1 and linux (dual boot) and I am very disappointed from my current version because contains too much bugs and crashes usually. I am using my PC as a professional user not a simple user that means I have more needs than a simple user. I am thinking this summer to downgrade windows 8.1 to windows 7 version or just keep only my linux distro. Windows needs too much system resources to work like (CPU, extra RAM, hard disk space etc. Furthermore as I read the Windows Upgrade from previous versions it is "free" only for the first year and then you must buy licence.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
Where did you see this? From what I read, it is free for the ones you take the offer. It is not free after the one year offer.Black-Shadow wrote:Hello guys,

I am rethinking about reserving the free Windows 10 upgrade. I think I will wait to see how it goes after the released date. If it goes good then I will get the free Windows 10 upgrade maybe.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
Yes they are doing it to compeete wuth apple. Its free to upgrade and for an entire year afterward, after that, however, its pay up time. Its a hopeful businness stragety, they cant just give away free software, they just want to reel you into upgrading it. Like Apple does .

Hello @SLGray,
Please read here at the bottom of the page the following text
"*Windows Offer Details
Yes, free! This upgrade offer is for a full version of Windows 10, not a trial. 3GB download required; standard data rates apply. To take advantage of this free offer, you must upgrade to Windows 10 within one year of availability. Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device."

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
This is what I read from the official article:
If you check the helpdesk for w10 you can find a lot of useful informations
- If you are using windows 7 or windows 8.1 you will be able to download for free the complete version of windows 10, but only until 29th July 2016
- After the 29th July 2016, whatever is your OS, you will have to pay for the license

Yes it was a confused issue, but I think they cleared their decision here in Question "Is the upgrade really free? "

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
One also has to take into account all the un noticed intial bugs and stuff that will likely be in the software for the 1st year or so, so yes while you get it totally free for the year, you just have to put up with a slightly buggy OS for a year, report it all to them, so they can make a 10.1 version (the unbugged version), which they might release as a totally different version so they cab exclude from then free updates and charge you for it. This move was made to compete with apple and to do away with the smart people (like me) who usually just wait a year before they upgrade so all the little bugs can be sorted out 1st.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I believe the better solution is when the official release is available to install a 30-days trial version on a virtual machine like VirtualBox or VMWare for testing before install it on PC regullary.
In this period you will have the time to test and assess the new O.S, its features and abilities before you will buy it.

I believe that Microsoft is trying to make things better with Windows 10, because there were so many issues and complains about Windows 8.

Hi, does anyone already downloaded and upgraded your Windows 8 to Windows 10? It's already 29th of July. How's new upgraded version? What are bugs and errors you guys experience? I'm a bit worried doing upgrades on my laptop. Have a nice day!

Even so, the Windows operating systems have predictable tendenacy to have bugs within the 1st year or so. A lot of people wait a year or two for those to get resolved as well as for the price to drop a little before upgrading. That is one of the reasons they are offering a free upgrade, to combat those who usually don't buy the 1st year so that whatever bugs are in there, have mostly been worked out.
