Solved Forum Deletion and Possible Recovery

    Post by Lady_Kitten Fri 5 Jun 2015 - 10:40

Hi! So I go on this site, animecrazyrp.rpg-guild.org, and apparently it's been deleted. I'm not sure if the creator (who hasn't been on in 3 years) decided to delete it, or what happened.
I'm just a regular member, but I do administer my own site. I was wondering if there was a way to recover this forum just being a regular member. It was a really small community, there was no moderators or administrators active, but from what I saw we all got along just fine so I can't see there being any reports (but you know.. I don't know everything).
If someone could help that would be fantastic, thanks!

Solved Re: Forum Deletion and Possible Recovery

    Post by Lady_Kitten Fri 5 Jun 2015 - 17:22

Could it be possible it wasn't the founder? I don't understand why someone who was absent for 3 to 4 years would suddenly come back to just delete it.
I know the site would have serious glitches sometimes, where nobody could get the forum to load for a good thirty minutes, so that was really weird.
I'm just super bummed, and I'm guessing everyone else who went on there too was kind of shocked. It was so sudden, and there was no warning. And we all got along just fine. I don't think the founder would just kill it without making at least a new topic to let us know, unless he was just rude and felt like ripping something away. And it's not like the place was dead or anything, so I can only help but wonder if there was a glitch in the system and it got deleted. I don't think it was the founder, unless someone can prove to me that a forum can only be deleted that one way.

    Hello,

I am sure that's not possible, forum deletion is a Founder ONLY option. Not even administrators can delete the forum. Only the Founder.

The only other way is for Forumotion to delete it because it was in violation of the TOU, but you would know if this was the case. Other then that, the only way it can be deleted through the Founder, I know this for a fact because that is how the Forumotion system is set up.

    No, I know that.
But I was implying the possibility of there being a glitch with the server. I'm not convinced it was the founder, not one bit.

And you know, other people's input would be great too!

I am pretty sure it's not a server glitch. This is the forum correct? http://animecrazyrp.rpg-guild.org , based on the message there, it was indeed deleted, if it was a server glitch others would be affected, we would have a ton people reporting it.

I can tell you that the founder logged in on 6/5/2015, and the forum was deleted.

    Yeah, that's the site.
I guess I'm just really upset is all. If I knew this was coming I would've offered my site to them.
I think the Founder's username was Kir Yamato.. How how can I remember when he never logged in. Do you know anyone who might have the username or have relation to it?

SLGray, can you tell me how you found this out? Is there any way to contact him by email? It just.. Was pretty heartless to just log in and unexpectedly delete a forum. I'll honestly say I made friends there, and enjoyed being there so I'm pissed that it was just ripped away like that. Anyone, even I, would've taken responsibility for the place. He could've just passed over the founder rights.

Sorry if I'm being pushy in any way, but I want to get to the bottom of this.

And I'm going to guess no way to contact the members.

Well this is really disheartening. Another dead end. Hmm..
Is there anything I can do? Or should I just completely give up. I'm super upset and angry, maybe it'll pass with time. But I can't help but feel what the other members must've thought or are still thinking. I'm sure hey want answers too.

Part of me wonders if someone hacked it. *shrug*

Yeah its unforunate that happened, unforunately, however, the Founder can do what he/she wishes with his/her site, including delete it. Unless you can convinve him/her to come here and recover themselves, then I am afriad we can not help you. Sad

    Sorry Sad.

Well, do you remember if they had social media accounts?  If you do, try contacting them by Twitter, Facebook, etc.

We can only help the founder, but it looks like the founder is the one who deleted the forum.

I can't remember any of those. Some people didn't like to give them out, and other simply didn't have any when I asked.

I mean, is it possible the account could have been hacked? I would've hoped the founder made a tricky password.

Are you sure you can't find his email? Are founders members on this site? Because I can try to find him on here.

Its a security thing, SLGray is not giving it out because it is used to prove you are the founder, almost like an ID, not because he is trying to be mean or anything.

    W
If would be the smart thing to create a separate email for a forum, and I hope he would've though of that.

I came here for help, and I not getting it so you can imagine I'm pretty irritated.
What if it was a hacker, would you sit here and just let it slide? I don't mean to be a jerk, but I'm not getting the answers I need. If you can't give it out, why don't you email him for me.

I mean, if he answers and says he decided to delete it, I'd be glad to get some resolve. As to maybe why? And if there was a possibly to open it up again just long enough for the members to contact each other. Or simply handing over the founder rights.
If he answers no to all of those I would happily leave it to rest and find somewhere else to go. And you wouldn't have to hear about this again.

(edit: I'm sorry for coming off brash, I'm just super upset. My forum is practically dead, and I hadn't told them about it. I didn't think I would have to. If the forum could be open long enough for me to send out a message for them I would gladly do that. I understand that you can't give out a member's email, for risk or harassment, etc. because I would probably harass him let's be honest. But what good is it to not contact him and give your members an answer.)

Look, we would love to help you, but there is nothing we can do, we can not help anyone with restoring a deleted forum unless that person is the Founder. The same rule applies to Founder account hackings, we can not help anyone but the Founder recover access to it. If the Founder comes here themself, requesting help, then we can help them. Until then, sorry we can not help you. Its part of security measures, what if someone came on the support forum and said someone else's Founder account was hacked and requested help for it, if we provided it to them, they could simply hijack the forum for themself. That is why we can not help anyone but the founder themself, its not because we are trying to be jerks or anything, its just security precautions say we cant help you unless you are the Founder.

    Regards,
    -Brandon

I understand the reason for your protocol, but doesn't mean I agree with them.

I mean, would it really be so bad if I stole the site for myself? The dude hasn't been on in 3 years. But that's besides the point because I'm not looking to trick you guys into giving me the place. I just want it back up and running.

I don't know what harm it does to ask you guys nicely to contact him for us. Because SL, that's exactly what I mean, It wasn't like we were warned about it. He wasn't on for 3 years it's so bizzaire! What if sending an email did some good. Maybe he did this by accident? Maybe there was a hacker involved? I just think this should be looked into this further, because it was so random, unseen and unpredicted, and left members upset. I found one girl on Yahoo answers, and I linked her here, so maybe she'll show up.
