Ultimately I do believe that we should stick with 24 hours. Its a very simple and in some cases people bumping every 24 hours might be needed to ask for progress on reports, password resets, spam management. Things like that.
It also indicates a level of interest. Someone still wants help on something and in some ways it can prioritise who to help first. If someone asks a question in scripts and coding problems and then 5 days pass and they don't bump their thread then it can indicate a lack of interest in wanting help.
APE's idea about 5 times every week in my own personal opinion confuses the rule and many will forget how many times they've bumped and if its 5 times for each thread they create and then that's doesn't change much, sure it prevents from bumping each day but it doesn't really improve the situation they'll still bump 5 days out of 7. Secondly if it was 5 times across all their threads it would be confusing for them and even more confusing for us.
People still get confused that its 72 hours in the review section bump limit and that's been in force since 2009 when the section was first created.
