In progress URL Forwarding/Redirecting Impacts Responsive Design?

Post by Cineworks September 17th 2015, 12:34 am

    My forum: atgo.forumotion.com

My URL: ATGOtalk.org purchased from goddady.com

My url is forwarded to the forumotion site.

No problem on the computer. It works great.

But on my cell phone, if i type atgotalk.org in Chrome, the scaling is screwed up (everything is tiny).

If I type atgo.forumotion.com in chrome on my phone (Gal G5), it looks great.

This, after I just sent out a mass text, pimping my site as phone-friendly.

    Two general questions...

Can this be fixed and still use my Godaddy-purchased domain?

And, if I buy a domain through forumotion, would this still happen?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

What exactly do you mean it looks 'scaled down' when viewing from a mobile? If you mean everything looks smaller, then I would reckon it is supposed to do that. Mobile phones have small screens, the site very likely re sizes itself to better suite the screensize of the device. Wouldn't want everything to look gigantic.

failed to mention that I had masking also setup at godaddy. I thought that masking may be causing the issue so I changed it to forward without masking.
But now if I type atgotalk.org in my cell phone, the site won't even come up. still works on the computer though.

    Brandon,

Come on Brandon, I'm not an idiot. The forum was created with responsive design, so that only the important text shows on a small screen. I was very impressed when first viewing the site on my cell phone. But after adding the forwarding feature, the site only takes up the top 20% of the screen when held vertically.

Adding a domain name should not cause any appearance issues.  Have you asked your members if they are having any issues on mobile devices?

Also are you referring to the mobile version or classic version while using a mobile device?

Strangely, the problem seems to have resolved itself. Or maybe the issue was on my phone. Or maybe removing the masking feature, solved the problem.

In any case the mobile version of the forum look good again.

This episode did bring up a couple of mobile-related questions though...

On one mobile browser, I clicked on the button to use the classic version of the site. How do I get back to the mobile version?

I noticed on my phone, that images inserted in a post are seen as links. That's OK. But when I click on a link, it takes me to the photo storage website. Is there a way to view the images while staying in the forumotion site?

    Thanks,

There should be a link at the bottom of the forum to get back the mobile version.
