Post and Topic icons not changing

Description of problem

I just finished updating my Forum a few days ago and ive just noticed the icons for New topics and new posts aren't showing.

The icon for no new posts stays instead of changing to new posts.

I made a second admin account for back up,different email obviously,and that's when i noticed it. I made posts with my main account.And when viewing the forum with my other account. The new post icons don't show.

I'm wondering if something has been deleted or altered when i was updating. code wise!

Hi @TreeTopmonkey,

Are you using the same browser for the two accounts ? If so, that's why it's not changing. A cookie is set when you view new replies / topics, and lives throughout multiple logins. If you log into your other account with another browser the posts should display as "new."

No i tried that first because i thought it might be something like that,and when it didn't work i came here for help.

I made a test, let me know if the icon changes or not. ^^

Yes the icon changed for yours and the the older posts i had made. The only thing that seems different is when logging out then back in again, even if using a different browser,the icon goes back to no posts. I don't remember it doing that in the past unless you viewed the post.

Has it always been that way? I thought you had to read post for them to go from new to old?

I just checked on another forum im signed up to and yes when you log off then back in again the icons do go back to no posts.

I guess i just never noticed it in the past. hehe silly me.

Oh, now I understand what you mean ! Yes, when you log out while new posts are present, they'll be marked as read the next time you log in. As far as I know there's no way to change that, other than to keep yourself logged in until you've read the posts you want.

This search query : /search?search_id=newposts let's you see all new posts since your last visit, though. ( and current posts when logged in )

I guess most people will read all before logging off. I just never noticed it before.

Since you posted on the forum, it seems back to normal now. It's odd, maybe not having anything posted for months while i worked on it made it hibernate.

Indeed, the only drawback is when you accidentally log yourself out. Anyway, you're welcome. ^^
