40 pages of posts lost

Description of problem

We have a thread that is 45 pages long. Once it hit the 45th page mark the first 40 pages disappeared. Where are they? Can we get them back? Can we put them onto a new page? Is there a limit to the length of posts per thread?

There is a limit of the number of posts in a topic.  When the limit is reached, the topic is locked and split.  Look for another topic with the same topic title.

If you delete some posts and merged it back with other topic, it MIGHT stay together. Once you reach the limit again, it will lock and split it again automatically. It is best to go along with the split to prevent further confusion should this happen.


What I would recommend is, if you know a topic is really really popular, keep an eye on it's posts count, once it gets close to 990, begin to prepare to lock and split the thread on your time and do so. That way it will not be so much of a shock and then it can be a 'controlled' split instead of whever the server decides to split it at.
