    In progress forumotions nameservers

Post by Nintenex April 20th 2016, 10:03 pm

when i visit my forum, it takes me here

    https://www.forumotion.com/search/www.nintenex.com

my domain doesn't exist. I removed the cname and changed the name servers of my domain to point at forumotion, All thats needed to do is go into my panel here and personalise it to connect to my forum, the issue is, its saying that it isn't well configured and isn't pointing at nintenex.forumotion.com, But since i have the forumotion nameservers any value type such as Cname or any similar type has no effect because the nameservers(NS) is where the domain will point.

these are forumotions nameservers for anyone who views this thread and needs help finding it, Credit to SLGray for handing them to me awhile back.

i edited the Op to have a little more info as to whats going on with my issue. The first time i did this i was not redirected to that page where its telling me the forum doesnt exist.
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    so dreamhost is saying this.

    dreamhost helper wrote:Quote:
    My Cname:
Record (nintenex.com zone) Type Value *Actions
    www CNAME nintenex.forumotion.com.

would need to be entered in forumotion DNS if they are not making those entries for you. Entering that on the dreamhost side after you have changed to forumotion nameservers will have no effect.

    Hello @Nintenex

the only way you have to link an external domain name to Forumotion are CNAMEs

Please read the follwing FAQ to discover how to:

i was told that the process should be complete before 4 hours. i was given this info from Dreamhost.

Dreamhost helper wrote:I just checked thru your DNS all is pointing to forumotion.com. There is a setting somewhere at forumotion likely where you need to put in your custom domain, and I think that's what you're missing. In any case, if you can't find it ask support at forumotion because what you have set at dreamhost is correct and needs no more changes.

How are you entering the link in the administration panel?  Try it without the www.

Are you should that you have removed the redirection to the domain name (Dreamhost) in the administration panel?

Did they say how long after you cancel it that it will be available?

I went into the forumotion panel of the day i canceled the payment for my domain and i removed the name which changed it to mydomain.forumotion.com, and now since then i wont allow me to add it back. it redirects to a search page of my domain https://www.forumotion.com/search/www.nintenex.com and says it doesnt exist and is probably deleted. which is kinda true, the name was deleted but not the forum. its rejecting the domain.

If you cancelled the domain name, you have to purchase it through the administration panel.  The only thing is it takes time for the process to be completed.  I mean it takes time for a cancelled domain name to become available again.

I really do not know since you used a different provider.  I would check everyday in your administration panel.

    Hello,

If we have set in our admins panel an option to add an external domain name via CNAME it's not for nothing! In any case you can not link your external domain to forumotion forums via DNS. Knowing Forumotion DNS will change nothing on that and it will not work! Si it's normal that you can not acess your forum...

In your case, and without going into the technical details, if you want to run your external domain with your forum, you must create a CNAME or it will never work

Here is the tutorial to follow : https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-

this is how the DNS and Cname are set up i have both pointing to forumotion and my site. I noticed when i canceled my payment for the domain and removed it from the forumotion panel, instead of the domain not directing anywhere, The domain would redirect you to the forumotion search page saying it doesn't exist. in normal cases when a domain isn't being paid for or cancel it would take you to a blank page or a brower page telling you it doesn't exist.

i remember one you saying even if my domain isnt being paid and canceled my forum will hold onto the domain but i removed it that same day.

Hi, i also got some new info from dreamhost, im waiting for a response so i can figure out what CP hes talking about because the Forumotion panel has no other options but to type it in and hope for luck.

Dreamhost Support helper wrote:The problem where Nintenex.com shows "the forum www.ninetenex.com doesn't exist" is on the forumotion side. I don't have any forumotion login to look at, but in the forum control panel, there will be a place to specify the hostname, and that is either not filled out or has a bad value in it. I think you said in the dreamhost forum once that it wasn't letting you put it back in... And I said if that's the case contact forumotion support to find out why. Currently your traffic is reaching forumotion servers, but the forumotion server doesn't know what to do with the traffic, so it throws the error page "the forum www.ninetenex.com doesn't exist"

Did you change it in your forum's admin panel as well? You can do this in: ACP (admin panel)-->General-->Forum address-->Personalized domain-->put in your domain name in the field and hit save.

Thank you all for your help so far, the problem still exist but if i can pull through this, this thread will be here to help someone else who is going through something similar.

I went ahead and terminated my hosting with dreamhost and is now just using them for the domain, I no longer have to pay that 10.95 a month *phew* x_x

but like SLGray suggested, I'm going to wait to see if the problem will fix itself with time, Smile thats the final ace up my sleeve for this issue, nothing more or less can be done as I've already tried. and if there's something else that comes to mind i'll try that.

Ape gave me instructions that i didn't follow correctly now, this is something i need to learn from. Embarassed oops
