Solved Setting the CName to my forum address links my subdomain to a completely unrelated site, again

Post by Shippuu June 17th 2016, 11:33 am

So, a while back, I had this exact issue before. I made a thread about it at this link, and it eventually worked itself out.

Now, out of nowhere, the issue has returned. To quickly tl;dr it here so that you don't have to read the old thread: My subdomain is now linking to www.oceanforums.com despite being configured to direct to my forum address, vindmanual.forumotion.com.

I have not changed any forum settings, I have not changed any Cloudflare settings, and I have not messed with my Domain Name's settings. If I use a web tool to lookup the DNS records for my subdomain, I can see the record for a CNAME pointing forums.vindictusmanual.com to vindmanual.forumotion.com.

However, when I try to go to the link, I get directed to www.oceanforums.com. When I try to set it as my Personalized domain name, I am told:
The supplied domain name is not well configured
You have no CNAME redirecting to : vindmanual.forumotion.com

Since this is the second time this has happened, I am becoming concerned with the stability of the forums. What is going on?

EDIT: An update, after a bit more looking. Here are the DNS lookup results for my forum name (without the subdomain), and the random site oceanforums:
Setting the CName to my forum address links my subdomain to a completely unrelated site, again XXTw8aM
(I'm not very familiar with how DNS works, but these A records should not be identical to each other, right?)

As of a few minutes ago, I managed to successfully link my domain name to my forums again. However, this is no longer good enough to be "problem solved". The forums dropped my domain name out of nowhere and began redirecting users to a foreign site. That is terrifying. Without understanding what caused that to happen, I can no longer trust the Personalized Domain Name feature.

    Hello,

Have you tried to go in your administration panel >> forum address >> Personalized domain name >> Force the URL redirection :
    • No

There is no such option for that, it is simply a subdomain set via a CName, as I mentioned in the title. This is what that page looks like:

Setting the CName to my forum address links my subdomain to a completely unrelated site, again 2Rn1LUx

I'd also like to further clarify that once the forum allows me to set the personalized domain name, it works. Technically, it works now, though I still distrust the feature for the time being.

My concern is that it randomly "rejected" the personalized domain name without any action provoking this, and that my forum began redirecting to this foreign forum without warning or explanation.
