Profiles: Multiple Choice - The ability to add images

Hi, I'd like to make a suggestion. This has already been asked before, but the topic died during the clean-up. I'd like to bring that up for discussion again.

This could be a great addition to the platform. Here are some ideas I have:
- as an award system or achievements (if one configures it so only admins can use it)
- interests
- owned games (for gaming forums)
- traits (for roleplay forums)
- inventory (for roleplay forums)
- pretty much anything that is better represented with a picture and that needs multiple options.

I've been using Forumotion for many years and, sadly, this feature still hasn't been implemented. I believe that a lot of forums could benefit from it and it doesn't seem to be a very difficult thing to add (since the function is practically already there). Please, please, consider adding it.

Well I just want to add that notice to make people aware. I want it to be somewhere where the registration is. Ideally that last page, but you say it can't be edited.

There is a profile filed option that you can add images.

I know @SLGray, but what I want is a multiple choice images list (like described here). So there'd be a list of images and people would be able to pick 1 or more from that list. This is currently not possible.

yes I have something like it on my forum but you can only pick one item right now it would be good if you could add more then one I have a moods system on my site and you pick one
the way you are saying is you can pick 2 or more at the same time like this

it will then show in your profile as all 3

Sorry but I voted no. Forumotion forums already have way to many pictures on them.

You don't have to use this feature if you don't want to. It wouldn't be imposed on you or your forum in any way. This is for profiles (those are not visible unless you deliberately go there).

Yup I know that. Images affect performance and they affect it a lot. This page for example loads in 4 seconds. Your forum loads in 6.8 seconds. On a phone it's even worse. I know fm forums loading in 15 seconds on broadband connection(as in fast). Mostly because of images and huge stylesheets. A multiple choice field with images means at least 2 more images, so 0.5s more load time. On a 3g connection, your forum loads in 21.5 seconds(https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.makemysimsreal.com/nGCaGzip). Users are not that patient.

I see what you mean. However, why do you still think that it's going to be on the main page or even in the topics if it is a profile feature? I see that you checked my forum, I believe you can see that it doesn't really have any pictures in the design. I agree that some forums are picture heavy, but I don't see why people cannot have options if they want them. Even if they want a forum like that, it's their choice. Tastes differ. I want to use this feature for small icons not massive pictures, for example.

Your forum actually has 18 images on the front page. I understand that it is the profile, not the index. This means the index is not going to be slower, but the profile page will. Which is the same thing. What you don't understand is that functionality achieved through images can be better and faster achieved without them. Or even with an icon font(like fontawesome).

I understand that text is more efficient. But all I am asking for is an option for people who want it (I described how it could be used above). We cannot simply disallow having pictures because of the efficiency. According to your logic we should just not add anything that affects the efficiency even a bit. Also, we should probably close Hitskin because some of those designs are picture heavy. Not a lot of people would be interested in having bare forums or using the same Font Awesome over and over again. Adding this option is about customisation and giving people choice, adding a personal touch to the profile.

There's no use discussing it anymore because it's not about the feature in question. It seems to me that you're here to argue (mostly over somebody's forum) and I do not wish to do that. It's also the only topic you participated in, seems a wee bit strange to be honest.

I'd also like to thank you for an unwanted in-depth analysis of my forum, I do hope your forum loads faster and is more efficient (and is not picture heavy). It's a very interesting topic and very useful indeed. Maybe you'd like this section better or you could write a couple of tutorials so people can learn more about how to make their forums efficient? I think the suggestions board is not a place for that.

Give me a single skin on HitSkin that actually looks good and you would use on your forum.

Having a few pictures on your forum is not a problem. Having 10's or 100's of pictures is a problem and its a huge one. This forum page for example has 339 pictures in img tags and probably more in other ways. And it loads in 15 seconds.

I know and worked with forumotion forums for about 2 years. You would be amased at how good a forum or website can look without images, or with a few images. Also my account is new on this forum and I don't have one on your forum. Despite that, I know more about your forum than you do. I don't argue over your forum, I argue over 90% or more of forumotion forums. I chose yours because I thought it'll be easier for you to understand. Also, that is not an indepth analysis of your forum. It took me 30 seconds to find all that. What you don't get is that you make a suggestion and people vote yes or no if they want it or they don't want it. I did that and gave a logical explanation that you don't seem to understand because you think this feature will make your forum better, while it won't. What makes a forum better is good content. Anyway, that's your opinion and I don't have a problem with it. After all, I don't even have a forumotion forum. I did but moved on

A person who doesn't own a forum on Forumotion is deciding what its users (and customers) should and should not have.

A person who owned 3 forumotion forums(decently successful) for over 2 years, also co-administrated another one with over 2000 members and who actually knows what he is talking about voices his opinion. Also, forumotion's users are the customers so....

this can be done with javascript and custom profile text field.. hide the text field and use java to create the multi choice image list then on choice click it fills out the text box with each choice seperated with a comma. then on forum where the image text will be listed you would have to run a script to change the image list into actual images .. not as good as the real thing but if all else fails
