    Solved Forum address change

Post by curiouspandabear August 4th 2020, 2:08 pm

    Hi!

So I don't exactly know when but one of my forums kinda randomly moved to hungarianforum.net from hungarianforum.com and now there I can choose between the two.
My question is that how could I make this happen on another forum? I'd like to switch the .com one to a .net one, but the option isn't there like with the other one.
So one of them looks like this:
    Forum address change 10FrGGG
    The other one like this:
    Forum address change SpE7lrt
Is there a way to enable this change or is it possible that this change will happen randomly to my other forum as well?

Thank you so much in advance!

    Hello,

We don't change the address of your forum on our side.

The domain hungarianforum.net is "deprecated" in our domain name management tool. So recent forums can't select it, only old forums which were created on this domain can continue to use it.

And we propose to these old forums to switch on the new domain hungarianforum.com if they want it.

Well back when I created the forum I could only select "hungarianforum.com" and it was that for a while and then somehow that forum changed to "hungarianforum.net" I didn't do anything, I couldn't because as you can see from the picture above it's usually never an option.

Also honestly the reason why I'd prefer the .net version is because that one is not blocked on facebook. :/

Well I noticed this also, but I just really wanted to know why one of my forums (same language & settings) was given the .net ending after a while since it was also registered as hungarianforum.com because there was no other choice, but not the other one which would be better so that I don't have to break the link everytime I send it to a friend on FB Sad

    No, not really. Sad
So to show exactly what I'm talking about.
The forum I'm talking about was created: 2017. october 14.

To prove that it was created as a hungarianforum.com here's a picture:
    Forum address change AHWa1Jy

Also years later when the first time I changed the url address of the forum:
    Forum address change Uz2GC2j

If you don't believe me I can send the whole security log privately. I did not change it, it wasn't an option even for me before it magically become a "hungarianforum.net" one, though it's something I want because "hungarianforum.com" is blocked by facebook while the "hungarianforum.net" is not.

Or it would be great even if hungarianforum.com wouldn't be blocked on FB Sad

A year or two ago they did move some inactive forums to the .net version of some domains in order to free up some names on the main .com one. You still had the option to go back to the .com one. I am guessing that is what happened to your forum. Generally it's better to have your domain name end in .com anyway since everyone generally assumes a website will end in that.

And yes as Skouliki explains, unfortunately once a domain gets blocked by FB its seemingly impossible to get it off. That is a FB policy issue, not our issue because we can't make them take it off the list Sad.

Afraid not, as stated previously, you can only change the address to what is listed in the drop down menu box in your admin panel.
