Member cannot type in body of message, only in title

Description of problem

I have a member who contacted me though the Contact Form Page saying that they essentially cannot type in the body of a message (for a reply or a new topic), and can only type in the title box.

This user is having this problem while using Safari 17.1.2 on Mac OS Sonoma 14.2. They do not have the same issue while using Google Chrome.

They cleared their cookies while on Safari, but that didn't help.

I have not heard from any other member having the same issue, however, I did have another member type their reply to a thread in the title of a post (with only quoted content in the body). That was back on November 29, and I originally assumed it to be a mistake.

Are you sure they don't have ads overlapping, or maybe AdBlock causing some issues?



edit: also, does it happen in any sub-forum and in any topics? or only in some of them? and are they using WYSIWYG mode or the regular mode of the editor?
you could also make an attempt in disabling javascript and see if the problem still occurs

Ads shouldn't be a problem as they should be disabled for members who are logged in.

I'll ask about Ad Block. I haven't had any issues with Ad Block on my end, although I normally don't use Safari, and I don't have the most recent version of Safari installed anyway.

I'll temporarily disable Javascript code management tonight and ask if that solves his problem. I only have 3 custom Javascript codes which haven't been modified or added to in several years.

@skouliki This appears to affect the standard "add reply", as well as creating a new topic, and even replying to the private message I sent him.

It sounds like he is able to type in the "post title" box, but not the actual message box.

After asking him to try a different browser, it was discovered he could type a message as normal using Google Chrome. So it appears to be affecting the version of Safari he is using.

maybe the member can check if the device or the browser is updated
also tell the member to disable the browser extensions
sometimes an extension can secretly be added and cause issues

I'll ask him about that as well.

I disabled Javascript code management, and that didn't help.

He says he has no extra extensions on his browser.

Can you ask your member to remove the browser and reinstall it again?

I know this sounds a strange thing to ask but my wife has had the same problem on a site before when using a mac book.

It was down to some update that started the problem but yet Firefox and Google chrome was fine, so a clean install may help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll ask and see if he's willing to do that.

His operating system updated this morning, and he can now post on the forum with Safari.

The culprit was Apple OS.
