This is a good idea when applied to the Home/Index front page.

Some members of my forum found it unnecessary in the rest of the (topics content) pages.

It would be nice to consider the option to select - have it or not - in those pages.

Another good idea would be to introduce widgets space BELOW the main content area. Either as a single space, or as a table space with selectable number of columns.
