    I thought Gif's didn't have transparency and couldn't have transparency.

    You obviously thought wrong then didn't you. And because it wasn't an animated .gif it can be changed to .jpeg or .png then the background can be made transparent that way.

    You cant. JPG's can't handle transparency. I use PNG when i make a transparent image
