Try and see if you can get Photoshop, for free. A friend of mine done it. That will make Transparent Pictures. Otherwise just get the Trial version if there is one.

or gimp
both free, and very good.
you must save the file as a .gif or a .png
those are the only ones that support transparent backgrounds.

you can use any program to get transparency ... all you need to do is save the image in png or gif
