Email notification of topic Empty Email notification of topic

Post by henridecat December 24th 2008, 5:23 pm

Is it possible to enable email notification to users when a new topic is created. This seems to be possible on some other forums, but I don't know if they are phpBB boards like mine or something else.

it's usually there option to set it there profile settings.
but also only when the click off watch this topic or send notification to a certain topic they start or watch. as far as them being sent an email for topic or reply. i believe that's only for staff.

our sever is down right now for the paid phpbb board we have right now.
if it comes back up soon I'll go in and see if there's a way to do it. but i'm pretty sure it's just for staff to receive like that? not sure if you referring to a forumotion phpbb or the regular?

    I have a phb 3 forum. http://forum.kriegsspiel.org.uk/

The sort of thing I want is like the link below, a daily email digest whenever new posts are made, this is like the yahoo boards which I'm trying to migrate from, however some members have issues about not having email notification like they are used to & it may prove to be a killer. Crying or Very sad

    http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php?i=misc&mode=display&contrib_id=1681

Any chance admin could look into this?

The other possibility that has been mooted is that an invision board is supposed to have an email notification facility, but I don't want to make people re-register if on yet another forum, that would kill it off. Perhaps it is possible to import members from a phpBB board to an invision board and set up email notifications there.

At the bottom of the forum there should be an option to "start watching forum"
maybe it is in a different place depending on the version. on phpbb3 it is lower right below all the topics.

when a new topic is created, you should receive an email

That only applies per topic, of which there are lots. It is not a broad enough brush, I need to have a global watch.

I do not mean the "watch this topic".
there is a " start watching this forum" option.
I got a notice today of a NEW topic added. not a REPLY to an existing topic.
I even logged in with my reg. user acct to see if it is something that only applied to admins.

Mmmmmm.... I haven't found it, neither have I got the drop down select forum bar.

Is your forum a phpbb3 forum like mine?

Is there a place in the forumotion admin panel to enable the feature....

I also haven't got a link to send users who forgot passwords a reminder email! Quel merde.

Help me someone, I have had no success finding a way of enabling these essential features... Email notification of topic Mouais

I found it eventually it is on my forum but only at the forum level and the way I laid it out there are a lot of forums on my board, I was looking at the category level. Maybe I can do something by replacing all my categories by forums with posts disabled. Hopefully I can sort this out.

Otherwise it does not seem possible to notify all users of new posts like a Yahoo group, but Yahoo isn't any good for organising topics.
