    Virus Question Empty Virus Question

    Post by icecheeks Fri 27 Mar 2009 - 19:52

I have had 2 members send me the following messages in regards to my forum:

Twice today when I logged in to this website I got a warning from my Norton Anti virus that this site is "unsafe". It didn't tell me what virus, because when I clicked on it, the icon disappeared, but thought you should know, since you are the moderator.

I go into the site and I don't get anything when I scan it but I get the message each time I go in. THis is quite a mystery for sure. Thanks for looking into it.

I am not sure what is going on but since yesterday my virus scan is saying that there is a Trojan Giframe virus on the forum in the location http://mily/forum/biz/users/16/00/68/smiles/816828.gif

Could someone please let me know what needs to be done? My forum addy is www.apileofscrap.1forum.biz

    TIA Smile

Thanks, I know that but we are still getting this virus alert and it is telling our members that the site is not safe. I need to know what to do and what to tell our members.

I don't know what you should do. Sorry. I don't know how to remove viruses, I'm not an expert on viruses.

    Sorry,

I completely sympathize, and I would like to be able to reassure my forum friends, too.

Several others on an earlier thread have been discussing this:
    https://help.forumotion.com/other-problems-f46/error-message-virus-t39640.htm

Unfortunately nothing seems to have been resolved.

    Hello,

so you are using Norton antivirus?

it is most likely providing a 'false positive'

I recommend that you go and down load Avast! (its free, and one of the top 3 antivirus)

Hi, Darren1... I appreciate your concern and reply. However, this is not a false positive by any stretch. At least three forum members of our invitation-only forum have had their operating systems deeply infected and absolutely hosed.

One happened while I was there. This user was being prudent with both browser and virus protection, browsing on Firefox (which is usually great at stopping pop-ups) and AVG for virus protection (another great freebie that usually does the job). That system had to be wiped and re-installed.

I do thank you for your suggestion. I wish it were that easy.

Considering i am looking at the forum's right now, and using FireFox myself, and have not yet detected 1 virus (and have been there for bout 5 mins now) I dont think there is a problem any more.

Concerning your forum, please PM the address of it, and I will inform you if I detect anything Wink

well i think it's the adds.
but it can also be that your norton is picking it up as a site that is not recognized and you have to allow it in through your norton or what ever fire wall you may have.

as far as thinking that's theres some major virus on your forumotion board i would not go freaking out. if there new members and never bin to the site before it can just be a case of them haveing to allow the site through and your system reading that it's a allowed access now.

but it could be the adds too. you know without putting proper links or screen shots it's pretty much impossible for any staff here to try to help and resolve the problem. so be sure to add you link, screen shots or as much details as possible.

also run all you scans,spy-ware ad-ware virus windows defender anything and everthing you have. if it';s detecting things and you have stuff in there you can run a trace or follow it to ware the source is coming from. if it is coming from your forum it should tell you exactly what it is.possible ware it came from and what to do to fix it.

so hope that helps a lil. it is hard to read into and trying to find a solution with out the proper links or details. what happens on one persons computer might not happen on another's.. i use avast too and that will detect things right away with an alarm going off and you can solve any problem or know what and ware it was coming from in an instant.

dont we just love Microsoft i used to have so many problems still do sometimes. but ever since i went with avast things have bin so much better for me.. but Microsoft garbage will always have this. if it's not one thing it's another. i want a mac damn it... lol

    ...

HTML = Javascript = Viruses, pretty much all the viruses on websites infect your computer using Javascript, which is put in HTML, make the link.

It may nor may not have been a false positive, which means part of a viruse was found, i can very much proove this to you by typing ~100 characters which will get detected as PART of a virus, dont blieve me, I'll do it (to proove my point, as said, it does nothing). Or, it is a virus, but only one provider has identified it as a virus, and others dont.

It may or may not be an advert, most likely not.

    Hey Icecheeks
I don't know the real reason for that, but I think this link may help you identify the problem
    Link
As you can see the problem is from the main domain (1forum.biz) so i suggest that you try changing it and trying again

Mainly you should change the main domian
    I'll give you an example
    apileofscrap(.1forum.biz) is your forum address.
Change the 2nd part of it (.1forum.biz) into any other domain for example (.forumotion.com)
I dont the way to do it but you may ask for it
BTW am sure this will solve the problem

I don't want to change the domain, we have 250 members and that would screw everyone up? How does changing the domain name help - it is still served by forumotion?
Could a staff member help out here please?
