    Solved Link option (Editing/Creating a post)

    Post by cougar30 March 3rd 2011, 11:43 pm

    Hi all,

    For some reason the Link Option when you edit or create a post isn't working properly as it should? Seemed to work fine a few days ago?? Whats happened?

    For example if you put in the link URL and put the text beneath it - It should just show the text that you put in and not the long link?

    For example: I am trying to edit my first post on this link; http://nineelms.freeforum.me.uk/t288-an-interesting-starting-location

    And remove the long URL at the beginning and trying to change it to say 60019 Steam Dreams from Lewes. But just show the long URL and the '60019 Steam Dreams from Lewes' at the end of the link.

    I hope someone can help me with this problem.

    Many Thanks
    MrMario

    Code:
    [url=link here]name here[/url]

    You got bbcode on?

    Hi, yes checked in Admin Panel > General > Messages and e-mails > Configuration and Allow BBcode is set to Yes. If you check the link i sent you it is giving a strange link? (As in doubling it)

    This is what it is producing for some unknown reason? Steam Dreams

    And you can no longer click on the link. Plus it isn't putting it where i want it now? It's putting it at the beginning of the post, rather than the end where it used to go. Basically wherever the cursor last was.

    Code:
     [url=http://nineelms.freeforum.me.uk/t288-an-interesting-starting-location]60019 Steam Dreams from Lewes[/url]
    which will appear as: 60019 Steam Dreams from Lewes

    Okay what you have posted Darren1 took me straight back to my forum webpage. But if I tried the following;

    60019 Steam Dreams from Lewes

    Instead It duplicates it and also posts the long link.

    Okay this problem seems to have gone away since I tried it again last night. The problem i have found is that you cannot put in very long URL links? For whatever reason it doesn't select this as a link and it duplicates it. This might be helpful to Forumotion? Confused

    Not sure if the Moderators have seen my last post. If this has been taken into account and helps and is being looked into then I don't have a problem with the topic being locked.

    Thanks Darren. But if you copy this URL and put it into you're Browser. You will see this is how the page has been setup? http://www.steamdreams.co.uk/Executables/GT436TourCalendar.exe?ActionCode=TP&WebBookno=1430123&SS=SDSVR01\SQLExpress&DB=SteamDreams&Division=A&bookingtype=T&date5=40738&Tour=71441&Route=1&Adults=2

    And the link does work..

    When I tried it on my site, it worked. I only got:

    60019 Steam Dreams from Lewes ,and it is clicking.

    Change this:

    SDSVR01\SQLExpress

    To:

    SDSVR01/SQLExpress

    Very strange this is how the URL is captured. I think this was possibly a one off?

    Not possible to have it as a 1 off, simply because URL's cannot contain backslashes - otherwise their a dead URL.

    I just right click -> Open page, and this is the URL that I came up with:
    http://www.steamdreams.co.uk/Executables/GT436TourCalendar.exe?ActionCode=TP&WebBookno=1430123&SS=SDSVR01/SQLExpress&DB=SteamDreams&Division=A&bookingtype=T&date5=40738&Tour=71441&Route=1&Adults=2 .

    Don't know why your getting different.
    I'd suggest that you contact the website owner, simply because a URL Cannot contain backslashes.

    If it's absolutely required that it has \ rather than / you could always use bit.ly

    Hi all, Thanks for all you're help guys. This still isn't working and I clicked on you're link with the changes you made and when I click on it - It doesn't take me to the site. A very strange one this is. I think it might be best to put it down to the site.

    Can you confirm where this is in A.C.P as all other links work fine. It is just this one. I'm pretty sure it is enabled.
