Massive blank space below Post Reply buttons

I had a look around for a similar problem and scanned using 'blank', 'white space' and some other words but found nothing similar, sorry, so here's my issue.
It's nothing fatal just a little worrying perhaps, but there is an enormous scrollable blank area immediately under the Post Reply buttons inside a thread? Could this be something to do with a user setting the Admin has switched or could it be code on the portal that is doing it?
As I say it's not fatal just mildly worrying and looks weird. Here's the thread we're discussing it on in the forum

Hi Jeremy, Try using the Utilities tool found =>here This might fix that problem.

Thanks Nessa. Now, as I haven't had to do this with your forum software until now (5 months and 30,000 + posts) I'm hoping you can give me a little clue as to what I'm about to do.
I have the options to
restore the forum as it was or
correct html errors
- I don't see anything else that might be of help. I'm tending towards doing the restore to a few days ago but I'll back up the messages and users first. If I do a restore from a few days ago, will my current messages be restored too can you tell me? i.e. I won't lose any of my members messages, even from today, if I do a restore of 5 days ago?
On the html errors option in utils:

Pardon my ignorance but is that a file in Admin/modules? Or is it the source code I can access from the browser?

Three-quarters to the end.
It was too long for a single post. If you haven't time to look at this now I completely understand and you're probably correct that it's the CSS, although this did happen around the same time that a poll disappeared for no reason - could it be related? Maybe not.
But if you haven't time then at least you might be in the right spot if that's the issue and EVM himself can maybe have a look when he has time. I might even look at it myself ...
As I say, it's nothing critical.

It was too long for a single post. If you haven't time to look at this now I completely understand and you're probably correct that it's the CSS, although this did happen around the same time that a poll disappeared for no reason - could it be related? Maybe not.
But if you haven't time then at least you might be in the right spot if that's the issue and EVM himself can maybe have a look when he has time. I might even look at it myself ...
As I say, it's nothing critical.

The css is fine... I checked the post and postbody classes but all seems fine...

Ok actually I have 2 possible ways of fixing this ...
I still believe its a CSS problem... cos the source code is fine and everything is being read.
I checked the css you posted for unusual margins or improper percentages... but compared to my CSS file there is nothing wrong...
method 1:
take the CSS that you have on your site and select it all... then copy it and open notepad on your PC... paste the code into the notepad and save in a safe spot ...
then go to your CSS and remove all the /* EVM/ stuff ... the /* part of it could be messing it up... I know this cos I once wanted to add a copy right using the /* */ method but it messed up regions of my forum....
so just remove all the added data remove the whole /* EVM insert data here*/ stuff.
save your CSS on your site ... take a look see if things are working.
method 2
If not... maybe all you need to do is reload your theme... I see you have custom navigation images... you will have to save them to your PC or host them on a server like photobucket... if your images are already hosted then disregard the above... you'll just need to know where your images are located so you can add them on a fresh theme.
after you've saved anything thats not default to the theme you can go to admin panel -> display -> theme management ...
choose the default skin ... but maybe in a different color ... for example choose the green default theme.... if the forum works well then you can change it to your blue one...
if the second method doesn't work then I'll report this to the techies... it looks like a simple error ... there is no need for full forum recovery
