is there a way to get a picture to open when viewing a topic

Hi all the problem i am having is i would like an immage to open up for about 3 seconds when you open a specific topic, however i have had a look at all the options and i cant see a way of doing just that, is there a way to do it?

also seperate point but is there a way to host PDF's on the sight?

well what i would like to do is when a user clicks to open the topic, a picture to open up for a few seconds then close leaving the topic they wanted to view.
i dont know if thats any clearer...
