Change Home Page Message Text Size

Is there anyway I can change the size and/or colour of the text that I have in my homepage message box? I want it bigger and a different colour! www.carlriseley.forumotion.com
I have tried changing the font size at the top of the 'Homepage' 'Configuration', but nothing has changed on my homepage.
The reason I want to do this is because my forum is becoming slower to load....(we have a lot of graphics) and I want to remove the scrolling and flash banners from the top of the page.
Would appreciate any help that I can get on this subject!
