1.Can i set the portal to be my home page?
and if i can how do i. Also how do change the boxs in
the portal around?

Admin/mods/portal...activate the portal.
Once enabled it should automatically come up as your home page. you can edit the page by going to admin/modules/portal pages management. and in the centre of the page, click on portal pages list and you can edit the portal.
