Basically the link provided allows the background of different genders to be different. Is there a way to make different ranks have different backgrounds as well (or simply, colors)

ACP < Users and Groups < Rank Administration < Put <span id=""> on the rank < Save < Display < Colors < CSS stylesheet < Put this:

Code:
.spanid {
background-color: ###;
width: 100%;
height: auto;
}

< Save.

The method's simple, yes, you have to do it manually, just frigging put a limited number of people in that rank ._.

The best thing to use is Rideems's link or switch to punBB overall.

Apart from that, the easiest way for you to do it is by making a graphic then uploading it in a new set of profile showing only the picture and then add a span code if you wish to edit the picture.

Adding opacity should be like this:

Code:
# or .{
opacity: ##px;
}
