CATEGORY PROBLEMS!

I made a category called general but whenever i make it, it shows brackets around it and wont show on the actual forum!
Heres how my forum is layed out:

What can i do to make it show in the actual forum preview?

if it shows brackets around it, the category does not have any forums attached to it. You must click the green + button to the right of the category with brackets around it, and you will be able to add forums.

You can also go to admin>>>>general>>>hierarchy and set it to split level index
