Hello . . .

I've searched for this info and found Zinex's article: https://help.forumotion.com/frequently-asked-questions-f5/text-sitemap-t9480.htm helpful for creating a Text html Page, for Google's feature.
cheers Zinex!

I named the file: *sitemap* as she suggests.

Google requests my page be named: googledzzzzzzxxxdddddd.html(I've changed the letters and numbers:-)

Instead of renaming the Text html Page I created with Zinex's article . . . I copied and pasted the body's info into a new html page and named it: googledzzzzzzxxxdddddd.html

The next two steps through Google are:

1. I've created a file named googledzzzzzzxxxdddddd.html.
2. I've uploaded the file to http://xxxxxxxx.com/ (given through PM) and can view http://xxxxxxx.com/googledzzzzzzxxxdddddd.html in my browser.

When I click on Verify, the page reloads, and says:
Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Feb 26, 2008:We've detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35638&hl=en This talks about the way my server is configured . . . an area I do NOT want to get into.

Any suggests as to what to do next?

Thanks, Bpoetic

I confirmed mine through the meta data option they list. They will give you some code to put in as metadata on your home page. Copy that code then go to admin panel->general->configuration(the one on the homepage section). There you will see a place for other meta data tags. Just post the code there and you will get verified quickly.

WOW! . . . that worked, Trivis! I did get the meta tag installed and have been verified. Is this as helpful of a feature,(as a sitemap) though?

Thank you Very Happy

This is not really a feature. It is just to verify with google that you are indeed the owner of the site. Only a site owner would be able to add those meta data tags, or a new html page, so that is why they let you use those methods for verifying your site. This has nothing to do with a sitemap. Just follow the directions in that tutorial to get your sitemap up. I just did it recently and it worked great. The sitemap verification may take a day to do though.

Do you have a suggestion as to why I'm getting the 404 error message? When I created the html page, then click on the view the page icon - the loaded page shows a 404 error *momentarily*, then loads the html page complete with all the elements it was created with . . .

Thanks!

What is the url of the page it is trying to hit? I might be able to see the problem if I could go to the page. You are welcome to PM it to me.

I still cannot seem to get a sitemap through to Google.

Here shows the *name* of the html page( the top page):

Uploading a *site map* to Google(FIXED) Htmlpagehm8

Here is what the html page looks like:

Uploading a *site map* to Google(FIXED) Thepagevp8

Here is what happens with Google:

Uploading a *site map* to Google(FIXED) Notverifiedtj9
I did try naming the file:googledc29cd8f79d7812e.html at one point, but that didn't work either.

***Could it be because I just changed my domain name and was okay'd within the last 48 hours?

Any help is appreciated . . ..

You are trying to do two different things. Verification is just to prove to google you are the site administrator. It has nothing to do with the sitemap. You can't use any of the google webmaster tools until you have done so. You can't submit a sitemap until you have verified your site. That is why I told you to use the meta data tag method to verify your site, since forumotion adds that extra -h2 or whatever to the end of your title you can't ever verify by adding a new html page. Once you have verified your site you will find a section on tools that has a place to upload your sitemap.

These are TWO different concepts. Use the meta data tag method to verify, then use the html page you created to submit a sitemap.

Hi Travis . . .

As I mentioned yesterday, I DID get verification through META TAG yesterday. I am trying to upload a sitemap to google at this point.

Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks

Okay, since you have the html file created already go to google's webmaster tools. Click on sitemaps, then add sitemap. It will ask you which type, choose general web sitemap for the type. Then it will ask for the page name, it will already have the http://yourforum.com/ there, so just type in the html page name. So in your case, from the screen shot above you just type in sitemap-h2.html and then submit it.

ETA: I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were verified. From your screen shot above it looks like it is saying you haven't been verified yet. If you are verified do what I just said above to install the sitemap.
