If Hollywood makes a movie based on a book, do you read the book or do you watch the movie?  Why?  If you end up doing both, which one do you do first and why?

I prefer watch the movie only.

Reading a book from any movie is not interesting for me. If i read a book, i select a novelty genre :3

Depends on the story. I read all the Harry Potter books before I watched their respective films but I'd say the films were fantastic.

Generally speaking though books tend to be better than the movies. The movies try to condense a book that has 14 hours of potential movie content into about 80 minutes so....you know, not good.

Books are usually more detailed then movies.

Often I watch the movie before I read the book. But with The Host i've read the book before the movie came out.
With Dan Brown books, I have seen te movies before I read the book, but with Inferno still in progress of filming I read the book first. :3

Books are great. You can picture the story how you believe it is and makes what you see and feel unique and special. Movies are good as well but they often don't cover everything or change the story. So it differs for me.

I think movies are good cause you can see what's going on and see it with your eyes it's better

I usually just watch the movie. My choice of books is often non-fiction

I go for books. When books are adapted to the big screen, I feel better watching it when I have already read the book. That way, I can compare how innovative the movie producers and directors are when it comes to cinematography.

Offtopic but I hate authors/ movies/ directors that kill the main character.

It depends what order I do it as I may not always read the books, but only see the movies. Although for example, The Hunger Games, I read the books before I saw the movie, but for other movies/books similar to those, I saw the movies.

You'll benefit from both reading the book and watching the movie.

Agree. But in age of HiTech I think movies are more interesing.

Films will never, ever be a patch on the power of the imagination filtered through the pages of a book.

Any kind of action movie I like most. So not special demand so far.

It would be logical for many to read the book first but then the film gets spoiled. It is probably better to watch the film first then read the book later for the fact that books will always have greater content than its film adaptation.

Movies but depending on how interesting the topic is. Such as, if the topic was about a certain tv show I enjoy, then I might consider reading about it but movies make it go by quick for anyone that doesn't have the time to read a book about it. I, however, enjoy movies. Although this does not mean I don't like books. I will read them if it is a topic in which I enjoy and if it sounds good and or if we are forced to read it in school.

I've always read the book before I've watched the movie. Most of the time, I usually end up liking both. It's very rare that I don't like the book or I don't like the movie, for one reason or another.

I will choose books always as there are so many details and after reading a book when we watch its movie we always get disappointed as there are so many details in the book. For example no one will agree that game of thrones is better in series rather than in book.

I used to do both in my younger years but, now I just watch the movie. I do enough reading at work and on the computer I just get tired of all the reading.

The moderator has said the right thing, "Books are usually more detailed then movies", but if you want to understand, then by watching the movie, we would have quickly understood the fun as well, because normally our brain will accept the movie quickly. , I will like to watch the movie first and will definitely read the details and then read the book. Thank you.

I would probably do both if I got into reading it. I would mainly go with the movie though. However, if I decided to do both, I may read the book first and then watch the movie. After that I would compare them to see how they are alike and different. (Some books are different than the movies). And I would also see which one I like better, just to gain my opinion on them both.

Many told me that the book is more interesting. But I have no patience to read. The film is better to watch.

It depends. But in most cases I read the book before they even announce the movie. But some movies are better than their original texts.

I think that movie LOTR better than books. Books LOTR are children's fairy tales, but it's cool.

Defintley a Movies over books guy, i couldnt see myself reading a long book over a movie.
