Hi,

Yes, it'll affect them. There are many variables in here. The time that search engines will take to index your new name and others might affect who and how many people get to your forum. It's important to keep in the meta tags references to your old name - so if someone searches the web for it, Google and other bots will still be able to identify your forum.

Regards.

It's not like your forum has restarted. Search Engines will still use old known pattern to identify and target your audience. Once they index your new name, they'll start displaying it as well. However, searching for your old name will still impact your ranking which means that even if people use your old name they'll still be able - in most cases - to find your forum.

However, if new sites or forums start to appear and with a more relevant name to the Search Engines, your position might fall a bit. It's always difficult to predict 100% what is going to happen, since there are many variables, especially since indexing is not something we can control directly. Wink

Usually, changing your name is still way less complicated than your forum URL, but unless you see a strong reason to do so on your promotion panel, be sure to update your meta tags to also include your old name and previous references.

It's always good to look for Google Trends (https://www.google.com.br/trends/) in order to make sure what people look when they get to your forum (so, if lots of people arrive to your forum using your actual name, you might want to reconsider). Smile

Regards.
