When does a link count at google?

Simple question, huh?

It's that that I link pages on my portal with a banner of the site. The question is now, does this link appear in google or not. I remember that I read that only direct links like www.example.com will appear for the rank.
Would be sad if the banner-links won't count. I think it looks much nicer if you have a banner^^

yes when google crawl/spider/robot to your web page. same us to yahoo msn and other search engine.
