chatbox VS shoutbox

A member of my forum proposed me to put a shoutbox in the forum instead of chatbox.
We talked about it and we are not sure which is the best.
The problem mentioned was that maybe when there are a lot of members writing to chatbox, the whole forum will Slow Down.

The point here is.. which are the main differences between the two?

Shoutboxes let you see what people are talking about without having to hit the archives button. It is much like a Chatbox not much dfference :\

A shoutbox is used more for giving quick feedback etc. A chatbox is used for conversations.

shoutbox, is something that a member leave any of there personal messages like bla bla and bla and so on. its a request freedom to shout that will be shown on the "forum or the portal of the forum" its an application or adds on the work for admin's to monitor the appropriate shouts with out affecting the users free will;
