As you know, there are members who register only to advertise for their forum, advertising personal ... and my suggestion is
that the member can send a PM once reached a number of messages posted
on the forum (ex 100 messages), and it can send and receive PMs from the
admin and mods that they will not have this option, meaning that the
team forum could send to members PM, and i would like to have an option that admins can read members PM for that reason

What would happen if someone had a problem when they started (common) and they needed to PM an admin, they wouldn't be able to Wink

Private messages are private and no one but the sender and the recipient should ever be able to see them.
this has been raised several times now. if youwant messages that can be read by others the word "PRIVATE" should be removed and jut call them messages.

i had alot of members from other forum poaching my members in private messages so i have made it so they have to post 100 posts before they use it, but you have to disable each member private messages and if you have over 600 members it take a long while before you sorted it all out, i would love to see this a option in the admin panel without going on every member setting to disable pm.

you cant go and read other people private messages i think that will be breaking the law in most countires

A private message is private.

Maybe so, But I am member of another forum (not forumotion) and they have a PM database that they check so no one is breaking the rules of the site in PMs.

So, it can't possibly be against the law in the US. Their Forum is even Copyrighted

i think you will find you be breaking laws private messages = private and if someone found out someone was doing that i'm sure you would get into trouble.

I agree with spook,

It is against the law in many countries, its called invasion of privacy and in some countries even criminals have the right to privacy and can get reduced sentences if someone reads their private mail, letters and if their calls are listened to!

I work in a large company, very large so much so it appears they can get away with anything, Not even they can get away with reading your mail without your permission.

Highly illegal!

regards

okay, suggestion #2:
"By clicking on " I agree to these terms " below:
- You acknowledge to have fully read these current rules;
- You commit yourself to respect unreservedly these current rules;
- You grant the moderators of this forum the right to delete, move or edit any discussion subject at any moment."
and we can add something like this:
-you let administrators to feel free to read your PMs (sorry on my english)

if we add that in rules before registration, then it wouldn't be illegal?

Technically it wouldn't be illegal because you are making them aware that you will be monitoring private messages however to keep yourself clear

While it is acknowledged that access to user e-mails and browsing logs by system administrators may be required in certain circumstances, it is unlikely that pervasive, systematic and ongoing surveillance of user e-mails and logs should be necessary.

Organisations and companies are encouraged to foster an environment where users are assured that the privacy of their communications will be respected as long as they abide by the organisation's and companies stated policies and terms of service.

The following link is to a great page on privacy and email laws

Voted no, first of all, people can report other members who do bad stuff through pm.

Second of all, members might have problems so they need to contact an admin or a mod through pm.

I am sure it is in some countries legal, but it is unethical and very bad form.
I voted no I agree with nazar if there is a problem folk need to be able to pm admin.

I voted "no" as well for this suggestion because I could only forsee alot of problems between Admin and Members, if this privacy was lifted some how. I think you have the right idea behind wanting it, but the idea of it possibly causing more problems then it may be worth in the end has only furthered my decision to vote No. Wink

I voted no, but I just thought about this.

What if the members could choose if they wanted admins reading their messages or not? Like in the registration, so it couldn't be changed.

Bold font is reserved for moderators and admins. Just telling you before an admin warns you. Anyway I vote no for this reason because it would be unfair for the members.

Just wondering, Since I'm confused:

I'm a member of another forum powered by vBulletin, and they have a PM Database........so is it illegal that they have it??

but it should be a lot of time, it doesn't work on forums with more than 300-400members

Well.

I voted no...Seems like a waste of time here. If your forum is good enough then you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not people PM advertize their site or not. And if it's weak enough that it really does get racked by forum Vultures and members are fleeing your site at an exodus level, then you May be the problem.

I vote "no". A private message is just that. Private

If a member on my forum wishes to report advertising via PM, they are encouraged to take a screenshot, then send it to a moderator.

I don't think this suggestion is requried.
