Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
SMf is not as attractive. But, has a killer vehicle management add on designed for Car Clubs. Much better than VBulletin. I'm running a forum for a friend and with everyone's help here little by little it's looking better. I love phpbb because of the great tips from people like you. You guys are great! I'm planning on fixing up the scrolling pics in the announcement section. I would like to convince them to use it for anouncement of events and place a flash banner on top. Do these scrolling pics slow down the forum?

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
phpBB is the best for me. It's got all the features you need and also a great modding and styling community.
IPB and vBulletin provide good features but for the cost I really don't think it is worth it. Plus, a lot of mods and themes require even more money.
The only thing I like about vB/IPB are the AJAX features

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
PhpBB is the most secure, beautifull and easy to use system...
One thing is good to remember is that:
Paid version != secure
I mean, VBulletin is a paid system, yeah, and this doesn´t mean that VBulletin is 100% perfect...

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
vbulletin is far superior with far more options to customize the site and appearance. Yes it has a far greater learning curve but that knowledge makes the administration that much better for the end user. Yes it is costly.
Quickly becoming very disapointed with Forumotion... I help a friend ADMIN his site which has been live for a few months now and so far we have had issue with Quoting, and now with embedding video. What a pain in the ass this is for the members!
I have also been administering a http://xxxxxxxxxx forum for about 3 years and the software is fantastic!!! The available code base is far superior to forumotion and the support forum is far superior. Have a look at it if thinking of starting a forum and you want software where the options work...

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
vBulletin is really good - I like it. The money part - I don't like it. xD
phpBB is also good, and it's free, so I guess that's better.

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
my reason for choosing phpBB is mostly like everyone else: because it's pretty good and complete for it's free.
the first forum I'm involved in is vBulletin, and I think it has a pretty nice layout. although yeah, I heard it's expensive. some other forums I go to, like Zetaboards, is also quite good, but I'm super confused with the large and complicated ACP, haha~ ^^"

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
I prefer Zetaboards, but Vbulliten and IPB are good too. But I totally despise Php with a crusty vengence.

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
Not only that, You can fully edit templates, install great mods, give administrators limitations, use a great infraction system, log IPs on registration, great administrator & moderator control panels, appearance customization of your own user profile page, generated sitemaps, quick indexing on search engines ( there is an option that allows Google or other SEs to index your pages quickly ) and much more cool stuff.coopcooper wrote:The vBulletin is cool cuz you get to customize profiles
I have to say, vBulletin is great forum software, although it's very expensive and you have to pay to upgrade it. But, it's great for forums. I like phpBB, but vB is a lot better if you've gotten the full experience with it ( what it can do ).
I've never used IPB before...

I've already purchased an XenForo license for $140 and it was worth it,

Re: phpBB VS vBulletin VS IPB
If you're talking about vBulletin, then you might have to do a few searches on Google to see people's opinions, musket wrote:If you're prepared to pay you can always get something better
A lot of vBulletin customers switched to XenForo, including me.
They got me addicted to XenForo. Once you join an XenForo community, after 1 post, you'll be hooked.
It's perfect for a general discussion forum,
