Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
Nessa? This thread is still in Connection problems and not tech support.
As long as tech sees it asap, it doesn't matter I suppose.
This is from a few days ago from the blank page outage:
Darren1, thanks for the good laugh; I am now an adverb!!!

Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
This must get fixed, I'm going to COMPLETELY move to IPB if this keeps up.

I know, I have a few more threads to merge here before I move it all to the tech section.

Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
I'll just say again, that my panel is working in Simple mode. Issues with postings, etc remain as does the panel in Advanced mode.

I'm sure your threat will result in techs getting right on this problem.
I mean really - it a post like this supposed to be helpful? Do you think that other hosts have 100% uptime? Because I'm here to tell you you're dreaming if you do. My forum at ProBoards was down recently for 4 full days after the server center had an explosion and fire. I've had my personal domain and website go down for a day when there was a server problem.
Data is all backed up and it should not be a serious problem once the issues are resolved.
If your life revolves around a forum, you need to step back and examine your priorities.
Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
*sighs* Let's just all hope it's up and running again soon.

I agree...this is so frustrating. I probably wouldn't care as much if my forum was older and established, but since it's new this really upsets me.
Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
Ok, so I have merged almost 200 posts of members who's forums are all having this same problem here at this time;) And moved it to the Tech section. But please be paitent, as the techies may not be in over the weekend, but I rest assured this issue will be resolved as quickly as possible. And would really appreciate your patience , cooperation and understand. Thank you.

Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
add mine too please.
Obviously it is a major problem with so many sites down,
and Saurus, don't belittle people who manage forums, this is serious, many of us have committed communities and it reflects badly on the forum owners and managers, when we can't even communicate with them to say, it's not our fault and we don't know whats happening, or when it will be fixed.
For all we know Forumotion could be going broke and we're all wasting our time here waiting - a helpful note from the admin of Forumotion with approx outage time; hours, days weeks, or absolutely no idea, would be helpful

Hello Mso4,
Yep, I agree with your comments. We all feel pretty responsible and like to run a professional forum I tend to think. When these things happen, it does reflect on us, as the admins. This is especially made worse by the fact that there was just a major outage just a few days ago.
Btw...love the look of your forum and the colours and dark theme. I started off with a similar theme but then changed mine to a lighter theme because that is what my members preferred. I do love the look of the black and dark colours though....good work and it looks great.

Umm... we aren't making a list. All forums have gone down because of this.

Re: ( Only Topic ) Recent Server Issue / Problem
No. No one is the head admin.

and Saurus, don't belittle people who manage forums, this is serious, many of us have committed communities and it reflects badly on the forum owners and managers, when we can't even communicate with them to say, it's not our fault and we don't know whats happening, or when it will be fixed.
I'm sorry, but that is just a wee bit silly. Understand you are on a free, hosted forum service at Forumotion. If you're so serious about a professional forum you might consider doing what I have done in the past and buying your own domain and shared server from one of the many hosts out there and installing your own self hosted phpBB forum. That is still no guarantee of 100% uptime, I might add, but if something gets screwed up your members can usually point to you as admin as the source.
I mean really - do you seriously believe members blame you for what obviously is a system wide problem? If so, I'll repeat that some people need to get a life. You can't contact your members? Why not? In my other forum I have appx 500 members. I have a database of every single members email address. If there is a server problem it is simple to send a mass email to everyone and tell them why the forum is down. Any reason you can't take the time to collect all your members addresses for such a problem? If you are serious about your forum and want it to be professional - you would do so.
Come on, people - this is not a life ending deal here! Servers have problems all the time. To dump a forum or leave as an admin after a few hours of down time is stupid. Some of these comments here are simply hilarious with all the hand-wring and crying!

I 100% agree. My forum is also down and I would love it not to be but...they are free to us, the ppl that help run them do have a life, and it's a weekend.
So let's all calm down and just wait it out shall we. Not that we have to much of a option

Yeah, we shall wait till the technicians get back to work. Life won't end by a bunch of servers.

Hello Saurus,
Our forums may be free, but so are many other hosting sites on the internet that people use all the time like YouTube, FaceBook and MySpace. If you are a member of any of these other websites, then you would know that "downtimes" are likely to be announced in advance or they are very rare. Of course server problems are not unusual, but this is the second major problem in less than a week and there have been other incidences that I've noticed in the short 2 months I've been here.
I've been having "problems" with my forum since the very beginning but haven't got any real answers to why my forum gives me white pages at certain times of the day, nearly every single day. Luckily though, most times, those "white pages" are very brief. But I've already had to restore my forum once through a backup once in May, now these two MAJOR outages.
For myself, I'm not crying or whining, but it IS very frustrating and annoying for many of us. There really should be 24/7 technicians available here if there isn't...at least one. With the amount of members and forums being hosted, it is certainly needed and worth it. I also think that the basic premise of having a forum, a communication arena is a little different and since it's completely dedicated to those principles. If you can't communicate with your members or they can't communicate with you through dialogue, then it becomes a major frustration.
Again and I've said this before publicly...I love my free forum, all the features it offers and ease of use, but if it's going to continue to be so unpredictable and not have stability, then the people who will be the most upset are mine or any of your forums' members and this could result in we/us losing them. Also, you can have the greatest looking forum in the world with all the great features, but in the end and if it doesn't work as it should, then nothing else matters.
