for some reason if you search for a member on my forum as a normal member, the answer is always 'no user exists' but if i search as admin i can voew the info, how do i change this so anyone but a guest can view this information?

Are yuou clicking Search, or the Memberlist link on the navbar?

To look for members, just use the Memberlist button.
