Party Hats?

Well, basically, my forum has little parties now and again where we have posting games etc. Now, every party, if they logged in during that time, I would like the users to obtain "party hats", which are basically just images.

Is there any way via Personalized Profile that they can choose their own party hat from a list of hats they have previously obtained?! Because I don't want every single hat to be there, not if they haven't picked up that hat...

Is there any solution out there to this?

EDIT: What I mean, is: is there any way that users can 'wear' which ever hat they want (as long as they collected that one), 'wear' as in select that one in their personalized profile for a list of pre-defined party hat images...

i don't think i can help EXACTLY what you want, but maybe if you make a new rank, with the same name as a rank of a member, and then make the image the hat... they won't be able to wear it...but it still shows...

Thanks for the help, I see what you mean...however, all that would change is whether they could get into categories or forums, which doesn't help at all because it wouldn't affect the personalized profile.
