How-to Hide News in Forum

How can I Hide the news forum from everybody in the forum but allowing them to see in the news widget in a portal page?

go to admin panel, then (modules).
click on (forum widgets). check off no for (Display forum widgets)
then hit save..

here's how you can set permissions for your widgets for certain members or groups to only see/view. i already had this typed out b/c i read your question wrong the first time

Setting Widgets Permissions

click on (portal). then you will see (Portals pages list.)
over to the right click on (structure). scroll down to the widget you want.
then click on rights. it's the (red x/check) icon.
then simply check off the appropriate boxes you wish, and hit save.
that's it

Nope it's not working

If I change the guest rights of the forum (not allowing them to see the forum), the news widget does not show the news

oh.
well technically your not hiding it in the forum. your disabling the feature that allows it to be viewed in the forum. like i said above. just select no for
(display forum widgets.)
and my apologies for the first time. i thought you meant you only wanted members to see. if you want everyone to see the forum widgets. then you will just have to check off everyone plus guest in the widgets permissions. admin,mods,members and guest. you will have to do this for each one that you are displaying.

plus remember to have (show portal) checked off to yes in the (portal options)
now all members/guest will see the portal.. and considering you have selected no for (display forum widgets.) and fixed all permissions for everyone in the widgets?
then the portal is the only place you and all members and guest alike will see now.

now if it's still not working after doing that? then it's either something else wrong or I'm not understanding correctly?
then just pm a admin or mod. they will get it fixed and straightened out for ya.
