Hi, could you please tell me if there is a way of disabling Personal Albums in the Gallery widget and only keeping the Public Categories.

I don't think you can disable them.

In your admin panel, go to "Modules / Gallery / Personal Albums". In the permissions-part, you can now select "Admin" in the "create his album" dropdown-menu. All other members are now unable to create their own personal album.
