This ties in with the admin panel and seems like the most logical place to put it:-

I've been trying to follow this for a fair few days. I've been to Display -> Homepage -> Generalities and put the meta tag in almost every box and tried to verify the site but google keeps saying that it can't find the meta tag.

Any help would be appreciated. (:

Ok im having the same problem if someone who got code working could post a screen shot would help a lot as i done all what this topic says and still getting NOT VERIFIED........ Any help PLEASE

lol heres what i did.

Admin / Display / Generalities add meta tag

"name" attribute : verify-v1
"content" attribute : ZacagtOJcKh+bCFRtS1mdfLSDmY7W2C3zgcmz0h3v8A=

Click add then i went to google as i had it open in another window clicked verify and it is now done.

Have you deleted all META TAGS from your forum that is what stopped mine you MUST delete all tags before you add that one.

Make sure you delete this one then start over with the meta tag code and follow my post i had the same problem i been working on it for weeks then saw this topic which i already relised i was in the right place on forum just was imputing it wrong.

This is just a thought but maybe it has to do with the number of people you have on your forum. I only have 3 people and i did everything i made one deleted it made a new and then hit verify did not work.

or when you do it do yyou have to make a new window then click verify?

well i have 42 members on my forum and it took something like 40 atempts lol but maybe you could be right but then like i said i was putting it in wrong so it was my own fault till i saw this topic saw how then it worked.

so do you have to open a new internet? like another IE?

I don't think it has anything to do with with member numbers - I have 181 members. I have deleted the meta tags, re added them. I have deleted the forum cookies and tried again. I have done everything I can think of.

EDIT; The error code I am getting is 'We couldn't find the verification meta tag.' I am putting the code in the right place, as you can see in my screenshot above.
Does this help anyone to help me ?

not really as you putting tag in right place and i had two windows open one on the forum in admin panel and the second one on google webmaster tools but i suppose you could try that.

i been though the painfull process so i know how you feel

To start with While i added my URL to Google it gave me an option whether i wanted Google to crawl my url. I said yes after which on page a message came saying can you view your site below if yes then Google can crawl if not then google cannot. I was able to see my site below that message. here i think was the first step. please everyone confirm that you did see your sites after the message.

second step Ask google to verify the site for which the meta tag comes in. I did exactly the same as discussed in this forum & i received a message

But it gave me a crawling error saying no data found. how is that possible

And it should work it worked after a couple of trys and can get very frustrating......... and it should crawl it no problem.

Still doesn't help . when near the Referencing : metatags I only see Site description and Keywords for your site
Words must be separated by a comma.
I dunno how to get to the part where its says
"name" attribute and Content attribute

also when i click the = in Additional tags i go to Search a directory category Help me pleas

I don't understand what you are trying to do...

What's a meta tag, and what are you trying to do? I might be able to help you in a positive way imo.
