private messaging

Hi, I am new to this but I have a problem not covered by any FAQ,no doubt the solution will turn out to be something I have overlooked or have not done but anyway here goes.

My Problem is this:
So far I have received a message to my email client inbox that I have a private message awaiting me on forum and giving me a link to my inbox on that forum but when I use the link my inbox is empty though it says I have received four private messages none of which I have received.

My Question is what am I doing Wrong?why cant I access my messages? How can I put it right?

if a member deletes a private message before you have read it, it wont appear in your inbox. The best way to check if your inbox is working right, is ask a member to send one to you, on the site, and check to see if you received it. If you have, then chances are the private messages sent to you were deleted before you read them.
